WHICH ARE BETTER FOR A 13 YEAR OLD PLAYING BASEBALL...METAL OR MOLDED CLEATS?

My son is 13 and is at a higher lever of baseball this year, he is allowed metal cleats if he so chooses. The problem is, he has only ever worn molded cleats...Anybody with experience with both that has a preference? Which are better for running, playing, etc?

Metal, without question, is better. They actually penetrate the ground giving better traction with less chance of slipping and groin pulls. I wore both in all my years of baseball and metal was superior. There was a time when they, the CIF-California Interscholastic Federation (the high school level), didn't allow them, but in all their wisdom, brought them back BECAUSE of too many injuries from the plastic molded cleats. Please lower your son's chances of injury- USE METAL. Good luck!

Metal is much better for a player. the player will notice a big difference. however, metal takes some getting used to, so he must try walking around in them before using them in a game situation.

it will also prepare him for the higher stages of baseball, where metal is always worn. My son being 14 and playing for a school team(actually, he is a pinch runner with exceptional speed) wears metal cleats and noticed a big difference on the basepaths when he started wearing them.

13 is a good age to introduce your son to metal cleats and prepare him for the more intense, more important stages of baseball to come.

Molded cleats are designed more for kids in lower levels of baseball. They are hard plastic so they cause less damage if you were to get "spiked".

Once you reach a level that allows metal cleats, they are far superior in traction, running, and overall ability to move. But they can also cause more harm to other players, which is why at lower levels they are not allowed.

    I'd go with metal cleats.

I'm a huge baseball follower, and am currently 13 myself. I just moved onto the bigger league as well. Most of the players at the level will be wearing Metal Cleats, and they do help players run better. I noticed the benifits, and I hardly noticed all the negatives. It won't affect his playing at all.

of course not. I am 13 and 14 > 2 months. I started playing the piano when i was 8 and i am doing grade 6. It is never too late to learn any instrument. 1. No, your are not too old, it is never too late to learn anything! 2. I'm not sure, do you want to play for pleasure, examination or both? I'm from the UK and we have special books printed for grades 1 to 8. Each grade has and 'A' section, a 'B' section and a 'C' section and in each section there are 6 pieces. However, there are two books, one with 1-3 and a second 4-6. There are loads of songs i would recommend. Are you planning to learn on your own? I would recommend 'La chevaleresque by J.F.F. Burgmuller' and Fanfare by Dejan Despic. I can scan them for you. =|

Yea metal does get better, but for me I like molded cause they feel a bit more comfortable and I am a catcher so the flat surface helps me a bit.
