What are some religious symbols of protection?

Any religion, not just Christianity. And not Saint Christopher, I've thought of him already! Thank you!

Well for early Egyptians there is the Shen and Sa glyphs.

The Norse had the rune Algiz and the "helm of terror"

    Judaism has has the Chai.

And it shares the hamsa or hand of Fatima unofficially with Islam.

Just to throw out some nonstandered christian symbols, there is St hans cross, (really a knot not a true cross) and the Auspice Maria.

Once a symbol has a cultural impacted meaning it can only be changed by a new completely different culture impact. That is why some symbols seem to stay viewed in the same light for many centuries and others don't. The impact must happen to such a degree that it effects mainstream society otherwise the symbol such as the cross that you mentioned would still hold its original meaning as for the swastika I'm not sure if we as a culture would be capable of allowing a group affiliated with that symbol enough of a chance to make an impact that is positive for fear that they can only symbolizes the horror of holocaust and certainly that will not happen as long as the memories of that event are so strong and the continued use of the symbol for hatred lives on.

Iron is supposed to protect against evil and so is silver. Salt is used for protection against evil as well.

Holy water is of course important, too.

Hindus believe in Mandalas which are intricately designed symbols that are kind of like spells that protect against certain ills or evil spirits. Staring at a particular mandala can put you into a trance and protect the mind from bad thoughts.

In Korea they have poles or posts that have faces carved on them that are placed near roads or a crossing of roads to protect against evil spirits.

There are many different symbols of protection for different religions and cultures. It is fun to read about them.

Japanese shinto shrines, salt is used.

Japanese buddhist temples are guarded by fearsome statues of demons. The smoke from incense is supposed to be a protection also.

In China, people put mirrors at the entrance of buildings for protection as well as statues of lions and dogs.

Crossing fingers, running water, magical circles in pagan religions.

Many Christians wear crosses or carry bibles.

Hindus have a loop of knotted string.

    Sikhs carry daggers LOL.

Aborigines used to carry kangaroo scrotums filled with colourful rocks around their necks.

thats all I can think of at the moment.

The Pope does not recommend a condom as a religious symbol. That is why he wears a napkin on his head instead.
