I have a gateway desktop 64 bit with 4 gigs of ram?
it has a 1.8 gig processor quad core and runs very slow, at least I think so, I know the processor is on the low side, my question is if I boot up the ram ( I would add another 4 gigs ) would it make my computer faster? Or will I actually have to do something with the processor, meaning change that and that is something I really don't want to do. Thanks all.
I know I was surprised that a quad 4 running slow too, but I think it because the processor is too small, and it's a 64 bit system, not 32
I did check and yes it's a 1.8 gig processor, and the only software I have install has been my printer software, the computer is about 2 months old and has been running very slow since the day I got it. I contacted gateway after a few days and they said there is nothing wrong with my computer..

Wait... what? A quad core running slow? I think you have some other issues. What are you trying to do?
And of course you can upgrade the RAM. Would need to know the brand and model type though to help find some.

I'm not aware of a quad core CPU that runs at 1.8GHz. If your CPU is running at that speed, it's likely a result of power saving technology that adjusts the clock speed to conserve energy when the CPU isn't under heavy load. But assuming this is working as intended, you should notice no slow down because the CPU will ramp up the core frequency whenever it's needed.
4GB RAM should be sufficient. I doubt that increasing to 8GB will show any significant increase in performance.
If your system is running slowly it's usually a software-related issue. When it's a hardware failure you'll know it because your computer will start showing errors or stop working altogether.
Have you tried doing a fresh install of your operating system? Wipe it clean and start over with nothing. If it's still slow then there's something else going on.
