How do you react to racist comments from little kids AND when you're at work?

I was at work, and this kid yelled "Stupid brown." I just looked at him and laughed, but I internally wanted to yell "Stupid fattie" (this kid was fat)..But, I thought I would make my company look bad and it was just best to ignore it?

How would you handle it? If I said something rude, I could have gotten into trouble? Chances are this kid isn't very happy in his life...He was probably 8-10.

Update:

Ouch, I did take it into humor for a bit...I guess it's funny to see people want to say that to someone.

Update 2:

I wasn't at a store. I work in a huge office building. It was just me and him walking in the narrow hallway, and he made the comment when I wasn't looking.

My gut says he isn't happy, even if he learned it from someone. There was just something about him.

You should have asked him what makes him feel that way? Sound very concerned, even if you are hurt or embarrassed, and talk with him. Tell him that it's wrong and that it hurts peoples feelings when he says things like that. Tell him that other people sees him act that way and it doesn't look good. Be a role model, a teacher.

You are wrong. He isn't unhappy at all. He is simply copying what he heard someone else say. He probably doesn't even know what he's saying or why it's wrong or whatever.

You should ***** out the parent.

Or say, that type of behaviour and language is not allowed in the store, please leave now before I get security. No reason why he should be treated any differently. He will learn then and there that it is serious and wrong.

edit: Sorry. I didn't think there would be a kid going about an office building. Doesn't that mean the parent is around then?

You have to realize people are usually a product of their environment. He's probably brought up in an environment where people judge one another based on skin tone.

You just have to remember to not retaliate in any kind of way.

Remember: You never get ahead if you're always trying to get even.

By the way, I was 21yrs old when I was called a ni**er for the first time in my life. And the ironic thing was that I was on a trip in Africa at the time! HAHAHA! I couldn't do anything but laugh at the situation.

8-10 y.o? Just ignore. They ignorant so, are you going to stoop down to their level? They are the product of their upbringing, which to say the least, is very poor.

There is not much you can do / you should do. Not even laugh. Not even stare. Just ignore.

You either ignore it, or ask the kid did his parents teach him to say that. Or where did he learn that word from, and do he knows that it is racist to say that.
