Whats the difference between shush and shut up?
If some one tells you to shush is there a difference if someone tells you to shut up? Is one word worse than another?

Shush pretty much means hush; it means to order someone to be silent. Its considered a more acceptable way to tell someone, especially children, to be quiet this way. Shut up is more of a slang term, often taken to be rude. It means to make someone stop talking. I guess its nicer to order someone than to make them :) And its much better to hear shush or hush come out of a 5 year olds mouth than shut up, trust me! :)

Yes there is a difference. when some one says shush it is generally taken as polite, and it shows that the person is kind and/or cares about you.
on the other hand however, saying shut up is very rude and may lead you to hurt some ones feelings.
so, saying shush is better than saying shut up!

Shut up is more insulting and meaner, and it's kind of like a silencing word right on the spot. Shush means that you should just be really quiet. Shut up is like on the spot silence.

Shush is nicer and shut up is not very nice.

Very generally, telling someone to shut up is considered more rude. However, "shushing" someone is also rude, albeit less so.
