Any Mirena (IUD) users?

I've been thinking about getting a mirena device in the next few months/year. I would of course go to a doctor, but i don't need an appointment for a while and figured i'd try and find out as much info as possible up until then.

my main questions is: on the official website, it says:

You might choose Mirena if you

• need birth control that is highly effective

• need birth control that is reversible

• need birth control that is easy to use

• *******have had at least one baby*********

i have never been pregnant before. is this a requirement or simply a suggestion? is anyone using this device that hasn't ever been pregnant?

any experiences with mirena are also welcome.

thanks in advance :)

IUD is not recommended for childless women because the device doesn't quite get in there properly. Women who have had children have had a dilated cervix, which helps open it for insertion of the IUD.

I have one, and I really enjoy the no hassle life, as well as the chemical free option. BC pills carry too many risks for my taste.

    Side effects:

Heavier periods. The heavy days can be one to three, and I do mean heavy. Leaking is a problem. I use a tampon and a pad together to stop the leaks.

Spotting after sex. The device scrapes the inside of the Uterus, and this can cause spotting the next day.

He can feel the string inside. As long as it doesn't bother either of you it's fine.

Tenderness/sharp pains during sex. These are few, but can happen.

Good luck. They have IUDs with or without BC hormones. I chose the one without.
