Good natural cat deterrent?
There are places me and my boyfriend just don't want our kitten to go. Recently he's been trying to climb up the balcony banister, and has made it a few times, and we're terrified he'll fall off. Is there any cat deterrent or any type of smells and such that cats don't like that we can spray around the banister to keep him away?

Adhesive tape, sticky side up. Make sure it's fastened down properly or it will slip with him on it. They don't like the feel of it on their paws. Leave it on for a few days, he'll get the message.
If he's messing, try wiping down the areas with white vinegar. It needs refreshing every couple of weeks but it should stop the unwanted elimination.
Give him more exciting things to occupy his playful instincts, a fluffy toy sprayed with catnip oil and a wand type toy will help get some of the excess energy out of his system.
If he naturally likes to be high up, get him his own climbing frame. There are some excellent cat trees available that encompass scratching posts and sleeping platforms. I have two of these, one upstairs and one downstairs, my four cats use them all the time.
Here's an example in the link. There are loads on the internet auction sites as well.

Citrus oils will blemish any wood surfaces, so I would avoid those.
My cats have the run of the house -- but to keep strays away from our doors, we sprinkle cayenne pepper there.
Try rubbing this on your banister and see if that does not effectively prevent her from approaching.

I heard citrus fruit - lemons or oranges? I think you can get a spray of the citrus oils from places.
What ever you use though, do a bit of research to make sure it's not toxic to cats, there's so much out there i wasn't aware could be poisionous to them!
Good luck :) xx

Are you saying that you let your cat out on the balcony? I don't think that's a very good idea... he could fall and get hurt.

You could try this product Stop Dog & cat repellent (Indoor/outdoor liquid spray to stop dogs and cats from urinating on or going near furniture, gates, plants, fences, etc. )
