To young for a cane? Any Suggestions on my problems being on a cane?

I am between the age of 20-35 and I was told last week I need to get on a cane to prevent further damage. I have always believed I would be old and grey and fighting the issue of a cane. Yet i am young and I am being told i need to get one now. I ordered a cane and it is sitting in my house. I look at it as a symbol that I wont ever be the same person/husband/dad if I start using it. I know it sounds foolish but when i was younger what i depended on more then any thing was the fact I was strong and fast. Now i am a little older I depend on my mind but I do like the feeling my body is keeping right up with my mind. So in a sense I am feeling like if my body is going already what will happen to my mind. Any suggestions on this subject please? Any inside thought? any one else on a cane early?

The thing you are totally forgetting is that if you do NOT use this cane is that your physical problem is just going to deteriorate further and you may just wind up in a wheelchair.  I have the exact same problem and this past year was moved from a cane to a forearm crutch which I consider ten times worse, I argued up a storm with the Dr.
BUT...I knew in the end that if I don't use the crutch that my problem is going to get worse.  I don't want that to happen.  I was in the Army for many years and don't understand how my body seems to be giving out.  It's hard to accept but I have to.
Use the cane and be the best Dad/person/Husband you can be.  By taking care of yourself you are making sure you are going to be around in the best shape possible for those who love and need you.  Good luck.
