I'm definitely not a Muslim, but I'll answer your question, ok?

When I first read about this new law, I was sickened & saddened. This has actually gone on in Afghanistan for centuries. There have been @ least two documentaries about these practices which I've seen that is a part of Islam.

I've seen some video clips (not fake) of young children/pre-teens talking about their abusive Muslim older husbands. I believe they were from Afghanistan. I remember one video clip in particular in which the young girl was (I think 11 yrs. old)appealing for help and was crying because her husband beat her. She was continuosly crying & wiping her eyes. Please google for these type inhuman practices.

The Muslim women in the article you posted risked their lives by protesting this. They were born into Islam & never would have thought about protesting this horrible law which they've really actually lived & witnessed all their lives until they began learning not all people have to live in this sheer misery.

I hope these women & others as well will begin to see Islam for the cult it is.

    In Jesus Christ's love,

It affects the Shia women who are 15% of the female population.I want to know what other women think about all of this.To me its ridiculous that a government would create a law like this.It just shows how screwed up the priorities are.More importantly it is unIslamic and counterproductive. There should be soft words and sweet gestures between men and women. The men have forgotten how to be real men so they abuse their women.

This is not a peculiarity of the shia, many men of this ummah have elevated their culture, denigrated women, and stripped them of the rights given to us by Allah.

The society cannot function without strong educated women.

    Edit

I looked for more information on the law. While I still think its a stupid thing to be concerned about and that a lot of what goes on is a mysogynistic interpretation of Quran and sunnah Im not actually bothered by the law itself.

My mother has standing permission which means she basically does what she needs to knowing my father supports her.She wouldnt go somewhere he wouldnt want her to and neither would he.Its called mutual respect.

As far as the sex thing goes, for what legitamate reason does a woman say no to her husband? We dont unless were menstruating, sick, fasting etc.So really for me what the law is trying to achieve is not problematic.Im just not sure its the best way to acheive it.

I have read the story a day ago- it is horrible that such a law is associated with Islam- that is the result of a sexist culture. I appauld the brave women who are standing up for their God given rights as Islam views everyon as equals and marriage is a partnership.

Inshallah that country will follow true Islam

I disagree with the law completely. But they fail to explain why they passed the law.

Pakhtoonwali [Afghan tribal customs] are terrible. Nothing to do with Islam. Muslims do not represent Islam. Islam represents itself through Quran and Sunnah.

  • Just goes to show Muslim women aren't a "free" and "respected" and Muslim men claim... the only reason the women think they are is because if they don't convince themselves, how can they convince people like me who think they are abused and repressed. This just confirms it... and now pedophilia is legal.. yay! go muslims....
