I see more and more people claiming to be libertarian. As a libertarian, I know my reasons, what are yours?

Well, there are two types; those that just like the aura of 'rebellion' that comes with it, those that just talk the talk; and then there are those who walk the walk.

If you aren't registered as a Libertarian, if you don't contribute time or money to the cause, or even vote as one, then you are just a wannabe. That's not always a bad thing, if it is a step in the direction of really advancing the movement. Get involved; we're a fun bunch.

But; if you are only using it as an excuse to spew ignorant hate speech and wail about conspiracy theories; please, don't claim to be one of us. We've got enough of that kind of reputation to get over already.

My own reasons? Because I'm a resourceful, hard working American who makes my own success by my own means. And I expect others to do the same. It's the only way that a society keeps the bar raised for its citizens.

I'm actually a liberal, but I would rather have a 2 party system with liberals and libertarians than with conservatives. Libertarianism sounds good @ times but I think that republicans are taking over their party because most people that claim to be libertarian only seem to be opposed to liberalism. It makes me wonder who's a true libertarian? I like to stick with the ideas of reason magazine and theadvocates.org. Bob Barr and Glenn Beck are fakeatarians in my opinion so if that's your idea of a libertarian then you may just be a republican jumping on the libertarian bandwagon. Bill Maher too except he's more of a democrat. John Stossel and Ron Paul seem closer to libertarianism than anyone else.

As far as I can make out, 'libertarian' means supporting a small central government. But consistent opposition to large and powerful organisations would also include being against large corporations.

Economic freedom and social freedom. Let people make their own choices as long as it doesn't hurt others. Government is a necessary evil, but the people should have their own say for themselves as it pertains to only themselves.

I am a christian libertarian. I believe in letting God sort us out. I do not want the government to make decisions for me when it is so obvious that government officials represent their own views and not necessarily those of the governed. They just pander to you what your views should be. No thanks. I am for individualism.

I do not like democrats or republicans. I believe that people like me are the only real check against authoritarianism.

@ Small enough to be completely ignorant.

Libertarianism =/= anarchy. You are a clueless neo liberal. You have no idea what you support, because your masters do not give you the option of knowing. They say you support this, but Democrats are as much a pack of closet Nazis as republicans.

    They aren't libertarian.

Because as both political parties become more and more corrupt, people are finding that true freedom is only going to come in the form of personal freedom, not big government.

I care for my civil liberties and pocket book.

No other party offers the chance to keep them both safe except for LP.

Because no one, Liberal or Conservative, should agree with their side all of the time.
