TBG NFL Mock Draft - #1 Pick Lions on Deck?
Just doing a simple Yahoo Answer Mock Draft. Of course starting at #1 with the Detriot Lions who finished with a epic (fail) 0-16 season.
I won't tell you my opinion on who should the pick be but I won't decide best answer on who agrees with me but who has the most clearly stated answer.
In short: I will be fair & open minded
And of course the best answer will go on my TGB NFL Mock Draft which I'll record on the future TGB NFL Mock Draft posts. Trading down is possible!

Look I know most people are going to say that the lions need to go after matt Stafford.
I Disagree...
The Detroit lions select LT Jason Smith with the 1st pick in the 2009 NFL draft.
Why I think this is because the lions have been giving up 52 sacks year. There for it only makes sense that they need to make an upgrade.
Jason adds top physical ability to a seasoned offensive line that he can learn from.
So Jason Smith Selected by the Detroit Lions number 1 over all

If they take a player i'd go with Staford, yes there are lots of QB's next year but like a bunch of anylists are saying don't put off what you can get now. They don't know what pick they'll have next year so don't risk losing a franchise QB.
On that note, the Lions ahve to many holes to fill so if I were the Lions and an offer of more player/draft picks were availble via a trade down i'd jump all over it. They need a lot of help before a QB will actually help so if able to get a package so they can rebuild an offensive line so a good QB would be helpful or a defensive line so that they don't give up 45 points a game then that's the thing i'd do.

The only 2 picks here are Jason Smith T or Matt Stafford QB. If the lions are smart, which of course they are not, they should be talking to both of these guys and trying to sign the guy who is willing to sign for less. Bill Parcell did this last year and look how well it worked for them. I think for the Lions the smart move is to go for the guy with less risk and probably easier to sign and that Smith. A tackle is going to cost less then a QB. But knowing the lion they probably take Stafford and Stafford ends up a bust.

As the inspirational Ray Lewis once said, "Defense Wins Championships" and it does. The Lions should select the safest pick in the draft and the overall highest rated player, Linebacker Aaron Curry from Wake Forest. He will upgrade their Linebacking Corps and the Detroit defense will seem to improve right away, i like this pick because their linebackers last year was undersized and made too many dumb mistakes that Curry would not make.

I think they should trade down for more draft picks. If they draft Stafford he will be injured in no time because their offensive line stinks. They need a lot of help. Maybe they should call Jimmy Johnson he did it for the Cowboys maybe he can do it for the Lions.

Jason Smith/OT Baylor
He was what they need for that interior to get the quaterback more time. They will have another 1st round draft pick to take anaother Qb like a Graham Harrell or a Josh Freeman if he is around but I take the OT.

Defintally not stafford, there not gonna be good this year regardles and he was only decent in college they need to build a line and wait for a quarter back till either in a later round or next year stafford wont be that good in the pros and it is a waist of a first pick
