Severn Barrage, CO2 creator or savior?

The Severn Barrage is a major project proposed as a tidal barrage across the estuary. It would produce Gigawatts of renewable electricity but there are concerns [see link] . I am less concerned about the environmental/nature aspect because there is little wild life and if anything the calmer waters will assisrt bird life. My only concern is the amount of concrete and the co2 from that. What is your view?

This sounds way cool! I don't know about the concrete. It's like the same as building a dam isn't it? In the long run gigawatts will way make up for the carbon released making it.

It's across an estuary though? Don't fish like use estuaries to lay eggs and stuff? But they must have already thought of that.

Gigawatts? That is so cool. Like how many coal plants does that replace?

    BTW cute dog!

Sounds like a cool project. You'd have to estimate the lifetime energy generation and calculate the amount of CO2 generated from construction of the barrage to see how it stacks up to other power sources. They could use low carbon concrete, but that would probably add an additional cost.
