1 pound of butter is equal to 2 cups. ½ cup of butter is 1 stick (¼ pound of butter).
Your recipe needs 4 sticks (2 cups), of butter. Also it's worth noting, that most brands of butter have a "cut here" measuring guide, printed right on the wrapper.
Edit-
In the USA, butter is sold as 4, quarter pound sticks per box. If you are outside of the US... 1 stick of butter is equal to 113 grams (see photo in link for details)

Any recipe that calls for a specific weight should be weighed out with a kitchen scale. 1 cup of butter may be one cup but it may not weigh 8 ounces. The only true item that is the same in a cup and on a scale is WATER. Eight ounces of water in a cup is equal to eight ounces on a scale. Any thing else that calls for a specific weight instead of measurement by cup, half cup, etc, should be weighed on a kitchen scale.

1 pound of butter is two cups. 1 stick is a half of a cup which is a quarter of a pound.

One pound equals 16 ounces. One cup equals eight ounces. So one pound equals two cups. By the way, one stick of butter is four ounces or half a cup.
