Is it wrong to ask my mailman/lady not to walk on my lawn? it leaves a path of dead grass across my lawn?

I am a new homeowner (1yr) and i didn't notice it last year but I was cleaning my lawn and found a dead patch of grass across my lawn where the post person walks to get to my neighbors house and it really stands out from the rest of my lawn, I don't have pets or children so I know it's coming from the post person, thing is I've already ask them not to leave packages on my door steps (3 times ) to invite burglars, I live alone and work a lot and don't want to seem nit picky.

You do have every right to ask the not to walk across your yard. If asking the person doesn't solve the problem, you may have to take the issue up with the postmaster at the post office. Just remember, if you remain civil about it, the postmaster will usually remedy the problem. If it gets to the point of going to the postmaster it would be a good idea to take pictures with you.

    Good luck

Yes, It Is Extremely Rude To Walk Across Someone's Lawn. It's THEIR Property...Yeah, Yeah "It's A Free Country, But You Didn't Pay For That Land, SO Use The Sidewalk. It's Not THAT Hard!!!!, And If They Choose Not To, Try Talking To Them. Most People Don't Find It Rude At All, And If You Bring It To Their Attention, Hopefully They Will Stop.

You have every right to tell or ask the mail carrier not to walk across your lawn. My carrier is wearing a path across my lawn that I pay a lawn service to keep looking good. The majority of mail carriers are good people and would want you to say something if there is something you want done different. I don't think people realize things the carriers do for their customers and things customers do for the carriers. Just ask the carrier to "please don't walk across the lawn " and show him or her the path. If he is like the majority of carriers, he'll understand. Tell them to also leave a note for the substitute carrier in his day off. Really, We do care. Don't be like Joseph and invite a big lawsuit compliments of "His Mail Carriier" By the way, I was a mail carrier for 43 years.

Wow! I had the very same problem with my mail carrier. I asked her to not cut across the lawn because she was creating a path as well. She agreed but apparently has short term memory issues. I visited in person with her supervisor and made the same request. He said it would be addressed, (no pun intended.) The mail lady came to me personally to apologize, yet she continued to use my lawn like a public walkway along with others. I had to go to the extent and expense of installing a fence to stop the traffic! Corner lot. No problems now

Okay this going to sound like it came straight out of a movie but it didn't.

Pick a sunny day you know that the mail person will sure as heck be carrying mail to you. Sit outside and when they come say hello nicly and then say that you know they are busy but you would like to express your concern.

Ask them nicly not to walk on the grass when going to the next house because you take a great amount of time into your lawn. they should understand and treat you with more resepct.

My guess is that your mail person doesn't enjoy his or her job much. so one day after they have stopped walking on your lawn (if you feel good about it) make them a card saying thank you

They should not be walking across any ones lawn ever. They are being lazy.

I would put up a small fence--one of those decoration fences that you can push the poles into the ground-- and a keep off the grass sign.

If they persist, you will have to photograph or video tape them then send the photo/tape & a complaint letter to their employer,.

Either put stepping stones as a walkway or a nice " Please do not walk on lawn" sign will get the idea across without direct confrontation.

You paid for your house it's your lawn you have every right to be pissed, Of course I'd tell her to keep off the lawn

well your not there to ever check on the mail man to see if they will follow your words so it would be best for you to get decorative type of boarder or a fence. that will stop them and you don't have to worry about tickig someone off

Is it too subtle to set up traps on that particular patch? You must live on a corner, so maybe set up a little stone fence, or plant a tree there?

Maybe work out what time they come around and sit out on your porch with binoculars, freak them out a little bit. I wish I had an excuse to scare people.
