Dealing with kidney stones and school?

I've had kidney stones before, and I'm dealing with this one just like most of my previous ones: Drinking lots of water and taking hydrocodone and anti-nausea medicine from when I previously had kidney stones. But, it's not working this time My parents won't take me to the hospital cause they say an ER visit would cost too much (we have no walk-in clinics in our city) to just have the doctor tell me to do what I'm already doing and take an x-ray and say "Yeah, it's a kidney stone!"

Basically, I only see a few options here: Take the medicine to take care of the pain and nausea and be too drugged-up to make it to class/not fall asleep in class, or take little enough of that medicine to avoid the side effects but still be in too much pain/too sick to go to class, and trying to take care of the kidney stone with some sort of medical procedure would also result in me missing a couple days of class.

So here's the problem: It's finals time, so I CAN'T MISS CLASS no matter what in the next couple weeks! Working from my apartment isn't an option, as half the classes involve lab work or group projects that simply have to be done on campus, and the medications I'm on don't let me do work that's ever gotten a passing grade! And I desperately need to PASS (meaning C's or better) my classes since these last two weeks will count for such a huge portion of my grades!

So, anyone who's been in this situation and somehow managed to not fail out of school, please help me! Any and all advice would be appreciated!

Update:

Edteck: Yeah, I'm going to eventually get to a urologist, my doctor's been talking about making a referral since sometime last week but hasn't gotten around to it. My only worry is that the area isn't exactly abounding with urologists (it's a middle-of-nowhere college town) so I might not get an appointment with them before finals and such are over.

Yah Baby: I'm going to try to get extensions or anything except failing/repeating a class cause if I don't graduate on time (and I'm close enough that having to repeat a class might be disastrous) my financial aid would run out and I'd have to pay 10's of thousands of dollars extra in tuition and such just for one semester... =(

I had kidney stones while in college. I went to my professor for each class. All they had to do was look at me and said I can take added time if needed. Try to complete the labs when you are under pain meds and feel good enough to finish the lab without making mistakes. Stones will not always pass on their own. Your parents are not being nice about this. Go see an Urologist first chance you get. They can usually take care of the stone with meds that dissolve it. If it is bad enough you will need lithotripsy or cystostopy. Both are outpatient procedures and you can get back to normal in a few days. Do this on Friday and by Monday you will be in better shape but back to fully normal. That takes longer but at least you can finish your finals.

You sound like you need to speak to your prof's and get one of the following:

    1. An extension: finish the work in the future when you are feeling better

    2. An incomplete grade. You may need to repeat the class if it requires work in a lab and you need a partner to help you

my best friend was in this position. She fought and clawed her way through medical school with Crohn's disease, chronic belly pain and severe problems for many years. I really don't know how she did it. BUT, she did.

You are going to have to go see a physician to document your condition, though. You won't be able to get any kind of concessions from your prof's without documentation of your stones. THAT's why you need to go to the ER, get the labs done, xrays taken, because when they do that, they can write a letter stating their findings and you can show that to your instructors.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
