How can i stop my quill pens from bleeding?

i got a nice set of quill pens with an array of nibs for a present, but no matter how softly i try to write with them they always seem to bleed for the first few words. is there a way to get constant and even ink-flow in quill pens?

Only with a lot of practice. The trick is not so much writing softly as being very careful with how you load the ink. Dip just the tip. You don't want a bubble of ink, just a tad on the tip. It is laborious. I sometimes think great writers of the past where great in part because they had to choose their words carefully -- didn't want to waste time with the wrong word since getting anything written was such a task. You have to scribble a little first before you write.
