You can use ANY brand you like. ALL such devices MUST be accepted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and so they ALL give accurate results.

But understand the definition of accuracy:

"Accuracy" depends on the TEST STRIP used. Most test strips are no more accurate than about +/- 10 points. That means if your blood sugar IS 100, then the meter may read anything in the range of 90-110.

To make the test strips more accurate would make the tests trips more expensive. Current cost for test strips is about $0.75 to $2.00 EACH. if they were made more accurate, strips would cost $5.00 to $7.00 -- EACH!

So, you need to ask you pharmacist which brand of meter has the LEAST EXPENSIVE STRIPS, and buy that brand of meter.

If your insurance covers the meter and strips, then buy the one that is most convenient for you to use!

Hello. I use the Accu Check Performa. It is very reliable and is accepted by the professionals I have to deal with for my diabetes and renal problems. You can get one from your chemist/pharmacy. If you are in the states, you can buy one at the Wal Mart store. The strips are available at the chemist/pharmacy as well. You will need a script to be issued the strips. You should ask your GP which machine they prefer. Usually there is only one kind available.
