How can I check car mileage discrepancy?

I am looking at buying a car privately and have done an Hpi check but it came back saying there maybe a discrepancy with the mileage. Vosa were useless and all the other sites need logbook details. What can anyone suggest?

Bought a car last year with a similar info from HPI. But the car did have the full service history logged in the book complete with milage which tallied with the existing milage. And the first MOT (4 year old) complete with milage. MOT's could be a good way to check provenance?

Ask for the log book info, any reluctance noted although you may not like giving out your details.

Ask to see any receipts for any garage work, they will usually have milage recorded on them. A genuine seller should have all this to hand and no problems showing it.

If this car has a service history ask for the bills from the garages that will give you a very close guess as to weather or not the mileage is genuine

use the MOT history site (DVLA site) to check in the presence of the vendor with the V5 form. If he wants to sell the car, and is happy about proving gen mileage he'll let you. if he is reluctant to then dont buy the car, he's been rumbled ;-)
