College BCS poll? Who favors the 4 plus 1 format? Who dont ? Why?
Personally I love the 4 plus 1 format. I didnt get the entire planned format that was introduced to the BCS conferences, but I feel this format is a step in the right direction. This format will settle once for all who the best. Can still leave one bowl in the BCS open for the winners 2 winners to participate for the NC game.
Last year Utah a non-bcs school would have and should have played Florida for the NC game under the 4 plus 1 format.
The only downfall to this format as who's the two teams to play in this
final match-up. I guess a final poll used for voters to determine the final two teams to play, and under that format, its easy to see why the BE shot down this format, BE could have easily have the best one the better teams that can particiapte for the title game be voted out of the top2 spots after bowls played simply because teams in the BE dont pull media power by the way I feel is a terrible way to determine who is
better than who, Utah, Boise St should have taught us that lesson.
But I favor the 4 plus 1 format. Its by far a step in the right direction.
I like your idea. instead of playing 16 teams I would lower it too 12. Sorry there's some conferences simply unable to compete as of right now same way they do in the NCAA, not all conferences
winners go the NCAA round of 64.
These top 12 play in what is called zero week, zero week simply because no bowls are used. The 6 teams advanceing gets seeded 1-6. Teams 1 and 2 get automatic bid to semi-final round. The remaining 4 get selection for best match-up and play it out. 16 teams as of right now too big. Only 110 teams
or so, you want the playoffs to be around 10% of teams involved or less, any larger a playoff format will never take off.
I truly dont believe that playoffs takes away the importance of regular season. If thats true then most sports would eventually adopt some sort of format that the BCS has.
If anything a playoff would improve the importance of every game especially games out of conference. A team that really want to improve its chances of getting into the playoffs or a better shot for a higher seed will play a far more formiddable schedule instead of playing a bunch of FCS programs that are even to weak to make it into the playoffs at their level. Teams in the Big Six confrences can build on their resume more by playing tougher opponents in other Big Six confernces. As of right now
the regular season takes really no effect until after the 5th week, because after the 5th week the time to lose is no favorable for a team. As a playoff format
not only place importance from opening day, but could also have some forgivenes especially a team loses to a close rival or to a good conference on the road.

Right now the system is flawed at best, even this year there are arguments for who is best. UF won and are probably one of the best teams but one can argue for Texas or Utah or USC. USC blew one game, Texas beat OU and lost in what i think is one of the greatest games ever (CRABTREES CATCH!!!) and Utah was undefeated. Now, if Utah was in a different conference surely they would've been in the Nat Champ game. USC blew out PSU in their bowl game who was a top championship contender before losing to Iowa. Texas beat OU handily and OU left many points on the board against UF. Utah also in my opinion destroyed the unprepared Alabama who UF honestly did not play so well against. For all of these reasons, not only two teams should be considered, no other sports have this system. Obviously it won't take the intensity away from the reg season games as seen in the bball college season...those games do matter for seeding!! More teams should be given a chance to rise to the top so that we can finally have an undisputed champion.

I say f it...
16 teams. All conference champs (yes, including the Sun Belt and the WAC), plus 5 at-large bids (with one of those automatically going to Notre Dame if they fulfill selection criteria).
Teams are then seeded 1-16.
And away you go. All teams that are not selected can go off and play the crappy meaningless bowl games that no-one cares about.
Only thing to do would be to include the major bowl games in the playoff schedule in order to keep the traditionalists happy.
I'm sure that you could pick holes out of this solution, but at least you'd have a definite champion, determined on the field, and not by some soulless computers, and voters who only care about casting their vote for the team that scored 50.
EDIT: Nice. 12 teams also works. Perhaps four additional games for the finalists in my format could be one game too far.

Playoffs take away the importance of the regular season I think they should keep the BCS system and force teams like Texas and USC to actually care about playing the little schools and actually preparing to play them.
