Question about selling saddles?
I am selling my saddle. Someone is interested and would like to try it out. I am just curious how most people do this.
What if the saddle is not returned in the same condition?
What other agreements and the like should be made before allowing someone to try out your saddle?

I always have them pay for half of the saddle and then I ship it to them and then they pay the rest if they decide to keep it.
-Let them know that if the saddle is not returned in the same condition that they will have to buy the saddle / pay for it to be repaired if that is an option.
-If they are to pay for shipping, make sure they know that in advance.
-I'd tell them to only ride in the saddle in breeches so that it wont be scratched.
-I'd also tell them that they are allowed to put it on their horse without a saddle pad, but when they ride, they must use one.
-I'd also tell them that they are not to clean it until they decide to keep it as some saddle cleaners darken / mess with the leather.
Good luck selling your saddle!

Make sure you have photo documentation of the saddle and any marks on it.
Have a written agreement of what is or is not allowed.
- putting it on the horse with or without a girth
- sitting in it with or without leathers
- riding in it with leathers
- how many times
When I bought my saddle I was allowed to take test saddles home for 48 hrs to 3 days and for the most part was just allowed to put it on my horse with a pad and a saddle cover (new saddle) but could only sit on it in the store.
Have a dollar amount picked out and agreed upon if the saddle is returned with marks that decrease its value (large scratch, gouges in the leather, wear)
Also take into consideration that the saddle might not be returned.
With a gently used saddle, I would have a deposit put down for full amount or a large part of the price before it leaves my sight. If it is returned in a timely manner and in good condition, tear the check up/give the money back. Scratch and marks would depend on the value of the saddle and severity.

Well, I don't own one, but here is what I would say:
If the saddle is not returned in the same condition, they must pay you for what it will take to fix it, and/OR the you break it you buy it rule.
I would also say that you should make sure that they know what they are doing with it. And that you want to be there (if close enough) for their test ride, and if you decide to take it while they are riding or something then they have to let you.
