Sell Mac to get a PC?

Lately I've been thinking about selling my 2ghz 2GB 110gb(ithink) Macbook for a Toshiba Satellite with 2ghz 4gb Ram and 320gb hard drive. I used to have a PC and I kind of miss it. I have had some trouble with my Mac (programs randomly shutting down, keyboard temporarily shut off) but no problems that needed professional attention( like my old pc). I am about to get into computer programming and have been told PC's are better to learn on. I have played around with some of my friends newer PCs, which don't seem to have the problems as old PCs have. I am not fond of Vista, and will likely downgrade to XP or find a BETA verison of 7. Any insight would be appreciated.

Before you sell your Mac, start using the instructions below to get your Mac running correctly and keep it running correctly. One sheet of paper with the instructions to do this. Can you write paper like that for the Toshiba you're looking at?

The Macintosh is a better platform for programing. The job prospects for a Macintosh programmer is very good. And since your Macintosh is Intel based, you can use Bootcamp to run Windows and learn both. Your resumé can brag that you can program either system.

For computer programming you are likely to be better off with a Windows based computer. Most of the people around you will be using Windows (or maybe Linux) compilers and the like. And I gather most of your course work will be Windows oriented. But you don't have to sell your Mac for that.

You can install Windows onto your MacBook. You can just use the Boot Camp Assistant inside the Utilities folder. That along with a licensed copy of Windows and you can install XP as a native install on your MacBook. Then just hold down Option when you boot up and you can select which OS you want to use. The drivers for Windows are located on the Restore discs that came with your computer.

But if you go that route, you might want to consider upgrading the hard drive. 120GB hard drive for a dual boot system isn't a tone of space. You might want to go and buy a new drive (say 320GB or even 500GB). Stick that in, and use the restore discs to re-install onto that. Then install Windows.

But a Toshiba laptop is a solid choice too. If you would really prefer to give up OS X and Macs together, then selling the Mac and going back to the IBM Clone is not necessarily a bad idea then. And again, certainly more likely the type of machine you will encounter with others in your field.

    Hello-

I would not recommend trading computers.Remember, you can always use Boot camp (Comes with OS X) to run Windows XP or Vista, or even linux on your Mac.Plus, Macs are generally better for any work with websites, photoshop, and such.Try www.apple.com/bootcamp

If you really do want to turn to a PC, I recommendd a HP or Lenovo, or Sony.Toshiba computers, besides the Qoisomo ( I think I spelled it wrong) Brand, are generally low end PCs.You also cannot get the beta version of Windows 7 anymore, as Microsoft only had it available for a limited amount of time. All in all, Irecommendd staying with the Mac.Remember, you can use Linux, Mac OS, and Windows on a Mac, but you can only use Linux and Windows on a PC.

There's no need to sell your Mac just for a PC you know. If you have Mac OS Leopard, it should be able to run Windows using a feature called BootCamp. All you have to do is install Windows XP or any other operating system using BootCamp. Or you could opt for VMware or any software that allows parallel operating systems.

What's important is that you need Windows and the hardware on a Mac are almost comparable to a PC.

If you're going to strictly work in programming, a PC will be fine. If you're going to get into any of the developing side, including web, I'd stick with Mac. The one and only knock on Mac is that a lot of software is not cross compatible. PC users can bash this all they want, but Macs are better for any type of development, whether graphical, web or multimedia.

Interesting that you want a Toshiba. If you're coming from a Mac, you should consider a decked out HP or Sony. Toshiba is 'generally' a lower-end product.

In my opinion, if you are into graphic/web design or video editing you can benefit from a Mac. Otherwise stick with a PC.
