Has anyone Depakote ER as mood stabalizer for bipolar?

been switched to the generic and had any issues with it?

I know generics are supposed to be the same as name brand, and most often they are.

However this med is really bothering me and wondering if anyone else has been switched and had/having issues with it.

Update:

I didnt mean just the med in general.... i know lot of people have issues with Depakote. However that is not my issue.... Depakote ER works wonders for stablizing my mood. The issue Im having, is after over a year of being relitively stable on it, and probably about 9 months of being VERY stable on it since upping my dose to what im at now, Depakote ER just became available in generics in February, so i found this out the last i got my Rx filled and they will automaticly use the generics unless my Dr writes brand name nessessary. Lately my moods have been all over the place....not getting to the far extremes of mood that I can get to.....like not the severe mania or depression, but been very irritably manic where i just have the impulses to throw or punch things or just want to scream like pretty much in tantrum.......and then past couple days been fairly depressed and having impulses to SI (havent in like 7 or 8 years and not going to...still think about it).

Update 2:

And the only thing that has changed is the switching from the name brand to the generic.

I did notice my moods being a little off on it within like a week of being on generic, but decided would still give it a chance. I was a bit afraid of this being an issue so started to take the generic as soon as i got it in the mail (get 3 months at a time through mail pharmacy.....med coverage makes me use their mail pharmacy for anything im on for more then 3 months.) Even though i still had probably at least 3-5 weeks worth of name brand left....that way i could switch back to name brand if it became an issue.....which i did do monday night to see if it helps. Have appt in 2 weeks so have at least enough til then when i can get my Dr to write me a Rx with brand name nessessary....especially if being back on brand name for 2 weeks brings my moods back to stable since that would prove its the generic

You need to buy the actual name-brand on this particular drug - your doctor or the pharmacist should have discussed this with you.

People diagnosed with bi-polar take an average of two years to get their medications "tweaked" to that elusive place where they are able to lead somewhat normal lives. It's a difficult journey. The doctor will prescribe this, then that, then take away this and double up that, and now let's try this. And you must be diligent in keeping a "diary" so that you can record your sleep, your diet, your moods, your reactions, your feelings. This is one of the absolute most important tools you can take to your doctor - in order to better enable him/her to prescribe precisely the correct combination of drugs to suit you and your illness.

Depakote is one of the major building blocks for this "cocktail" of medications. And yes, the measurements/ratio of the dose is vital.

In this particular situations, generics are NOT the same.

    I wish you the best.
