  • Expanders? Experience?

I took my son 8 year old son to the orthodontist yesterday. It is being recommended that he get expanders because his mouth is small and will be extremely crowded with his adult teeth coming in in. It is already causing problems with only 5 adult teeth, the third to come in on the bottom, is severely pushing the front tooth next to if forward, badly.

My question is for any parents that have children around his age that have, or have had expanders. Mainly, what has been the experience overall? Especially discomfort and pain. I really just want to know if it is worth doing.

  • Thinking about getting an IUD (please only answer if have, or have had an IUD)?

(yes i already asked this....just hoping for some more answers....thanks!)

Ok, so I am going to be losing my health insurance after November. So i want to try to get a GYN appt and considering getting an IUD before I lose my coverage, so then I won't have to worry about BC pills when I have no coverage.

    Questions to those that have or have had an IUD;

What kind (copper/hormone) and what is your experience with it? IE, side effects, changes in period length, heaviness of flow. (I generally have a 3-4 day period with light flow and NO cramping/other pms symptoms both on bc pills, or not on bc pills....however not on bc pills my periods are very irregular)

How much does one usually cost with decent insurance coverage?

Also is there a certain point in your menstrual cycle it has to be put in? Right before/during/after period or something?

Oh and i have had a child, almost 8 years ago.

    Thanks for your help!

  • New 2009 Nissan Versa.....very unforgiving on rough roads?

Ok, I have had my versa for 6 months now, and still love it. Only issue I do have with it is it is VERY unforgiving with going across rough roads....probably not an issue in most places, but I live in a city that the roads are not going to get any better.....most roads are rough, potholes are everywhere, man hole covers are often sunk just as bad as pot holes....plus there are many places there are brick roads....some not in the best of shape (I actually started taking another route all together to avoid one that is on route i would normally take otherwise).

So, just wondering if, when I would have the money to do so, is there anything I can do that will improve this? Better shocks or something? Or is there really nothing I can do to improve this with this car? Also if there is anything i can do, how much would it likely cost me?

  • Dealling with stigma and misinformed people?

    Okay, this morning at work a coworker laughed at an email he got and then turned to me to tell me his "joke";

"I have schizophrenia and so do I"

I pretty much just looked at him a went huh? because it made no sense to me. So he proceeded to inform me that schizophrenics have multiple personalities. (no wonder it made no sense to me since I knew what schizophrenia really is). So I informed him that no schizophrenia did not involve multiple personalities, and told him what real symptoms of schizophrenia include.

So i snapped "well im sorry i told a joke" really irritated with me and walked away.

I am so tempted to just email him to explain to him that one thing that really irritates me is people perpetuating the stigma and misinformation about mental illness, and that I have bipolar. I just usually keep my mouth closed and do not say anything to most people unless i just correct the facts they have skewed.

Anyone else deal with this kind of thing and how do you deal with it?

  • Who actually believes?

Who actually believes all the posts that say "I'm a Dr/nurse"?

Granted I'm sure there are some genuine ones on here, but I see so many that claim to be that give advise that just common sense would scream is bad advise.

Majority of people in the medical community first off have a job that takes up a good bit of their time, that I doubt they are going to all go home and continue working for free.

Second, there are so many liability issues involved in the medical field that anything serious, really they can not do anything other then list a possibilities of what it can be and tell you to see a Dr. I know my cousin is a nurse as is her fathers gf, and listening to the 2 of them talk, they have talked about being somewhere where an accident happened, and the guy involved had a head injury, and as much as they wanted to help, they could not....they had to avoid saying they were nurses and avoid getting involved because of the simple fact that if they did anything at all, and anything happened to him, there would be liability that fell on them.

But really, does anyone here actually believe that the people here are Drs/nurses that say "I'm a Dr/nurse. It sounds like you have XXXXXX and you should do XXXXX" and do not direct you to go see a Dr?

  • Sunburn.........blistering?

Ok....got sun burnt pretty bad on my thighs and back on saturday just relaxing in the sun. Was out longer then i thought and being cloudy always makes it seem less dangerous.

Have been putting aloe on it very often, and drinking lots of water.....and taking ibuprofen to help with the pain (could barely walk saturday night with how my legs were......took a cold bath and legs felt like they were on fire when i pulled them out of the water.)

As of right now (Monday.....almost 48 hours after the sun burn) I have not peeled at all, and only have one very small blister on my leg (like the diameter of a pea....but very flat).

At this point have i most likely taken care of it well enough that im not going to blister more? Or is there anything i can do other then continuing using the aloe that will reduce the chance of me blistering badly?

  • Experience with Ubuntu?

I just got myself a net book and decided to have it with Ubuntu OS instead of windows. I just hate windows, had wanted to try Linux a while back, but didn't work out when I tried. Figured this coming installed with Ubuntu I won't have the issues of having it installed in windows, or duel installed with windows, and will just have to adjust to using it.

For those that have used it, how easy is it to use for someone that is used to windows? Also, what applications come preloaded on it? Hoping i will like this and and can install this be done with windows on my old laptop as well. At very least, cant be worse the windows......my only trouble is that windows is what i am used to.

I know generics are supposed to be the same as name brand, and most often they are.

However this med is really bothering me and wondering if anyone else has been switched and had/having issues with it.

  • Men only please. What would you do and think if you started dating a girl, things were going well, and she ?

told you that she had bipolar.

    1) Would you continue to date her? Why or why not?

    2) How would you think her having bipolar would effect your relationship?

Please do not give me definitions of what bipolar is, I'm not trying to educate myself on what it is. I just want honest opinions, not advise or definitions.

And yes I do only want mens opinions on this for a reason

  • Does anyone else that has bipolar?

    HATE the statement "I'm/he's/she's/you're bipolar"

I just wonder because that really gets under my skin. Not enough that I'm going to correct anyone that says it.

I just see that statement as defining the person by the illness. I HAVE bipolar, but refuse to say i AM bipolar.......bipolar is the illness i happen to live with....its not me.

Just am wondering if anyone else that has bipolar sees it this way.

  • What would you do and think if you started dating someone, things were going well, and they told you that they?

    had bipolar.

    1) Would you continue to date them? Why or why not?

    2) What is your understanding of what bipolar? Now I don't want a copy paste definition of bipolar, or link to sites. I don't care if what you think bipolar is isn't quite accurate. I'm not trying to educate myself on what bipolar is, I want to know what people honestly think or would assume it is.

  • Has anyone that has been on YAZ had ALMOST no period?

Ive been on Yaz for 7 months now and my period just about disappeared to the point that a few times I was afraid I might be pregnant(have taken a couple pregnancy tests because of it too and im not). The first couple months my period started mid day monday (first day of new pack....5th day off hormone pills which is the same as how i was on Yasmin) but instead of lasting about 2 1/2-3 days (typical period length for me even without bc pills) it would end by Tuesday night, so day and a half, and very very light. Then for months now Ive started to not start periods til Tue morning/mid day...and really, use maybe one or two tampons Tuesday afternoon, and that is it. Now I'm so not complaining if this is normal and fine. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen on Yaz
