Experience with Ubuntu?
I just got myself a net book and decided to have it with Ubuntu OS instead of windows. I just hate windows, had wanted to try Linux a while back, but didn't work out when I tried. Figured this coming installed with Ubuntu I won't have the issues of having it installed in windows, or duel installed with windows, and will just have to adjust to using it.
For those that have used it, how easy is it to use for someone that is used to windows? Also, what applications come preloaded on it? Hoping i will like this and and can install this be done with windows on my old laptop as well. At very least, cant be worse the windows......my only trouble is that windows is what i am used to.
Wanted to add, I do not yet have my net book. Just have it ordered. It will not have Windows on it at all, just Ubuntu, so I won't have the duel boot problems. Those problems were what caused me to give up on trying linux a couple years ago when i tried it.

I find Linux fairly easy to use, especially Ubuntu. It really comes down to how you will use it. Most software these days is installed from repositories on the internet - just go to the Add Programs menu item, select what you want to install, and it handles it for you. Things get complicated if you want to install obscure third party apps that don't show up in repositories. But that's only happened to me a few times in the past few years, so odds are good that you'll be fine.
Most everything in Ubuntu can be done via the GUI these days. It's fairly user friendly and easy to figure out.
I'm not sure what apps come installed on Netbooks. However, the major ones like Open Office, Gimp, Firefox etc are available through repositories and easily installed.

It's a bit more difficult then windows but more secure. There are plenty of ubuntu forums that will help you. Google for some uibuntu tutorials.
I had problems when I tried to dual boot windows xp and ubuntu.
Ubuntu worked fine but Windows gave me problems. You have to install them in the right order.
Anyways I use windows these days since I lost the ubuntu disk.

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 6 Main Edition which is Ubuntu based. Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled.

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 6 then you need to create a Bootable CD from the ISO. This can easily be done using Nero Burning ROM or similar software. Linux Mint can also be run straight from the LiveCD you have created without touching your Hard Drive.
Remember you can RUN IT LIVE !
