A few questions on IVF....?

I had an ectopic pregnancy in February this year. We ttc for 4 years after a miscarriage. The doctors told me when i was in hospital with my ectopic that i will need IVF, as my left tube was damaged from the ectopic pregnancy, and my right tube and ovary is also damaged so doesn't look like my right side is working at all. I have my first appointment at the infertility clinic on the 11th of may. But there is so much i need to know.

Does anyone know how long we will need to wait for IVF in scotland ?

What is involved?

How long does the whole proses take?

What are the chances of it working?

There's so much i want to know.lol I would also like to hear from people who have been through it, and hear your experience good or bad. I really need to know everything i can.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi hun i know that it is really hard to get correct information on IVF and everyone has a different story.

tomorrow i am about to get my embryos transferred so i am really in the thick of it right now. Like you i had so many questions and i had no idea about each stage.

1st Stage lots of blood tests, paper work and questions making sure you are fit and ready for ivf.

Then they tell you to call on the first day of your next cycle. (if this falls over the weekend you just call them first thing mon morning).

They then give you 2 dates, 1st date 3 weeks later then 2nd date 2 weeks after that.

on the first date you will be given prostart to allow them to take control of your cycle (you normally have a period in between)

2nd date is for a scan and to give you your medication (scans seem scary but are really not that bad they make you feel very comfortable and they are def not painful.

You normally at this point start self injecting and nasal spray this sounds terrible but its a very small needle and is not that bad.

They will bring you back possible 2-3 time depending on how your eggs are developing, the injections are just making your eggs bigger.

When they feel the eggs are big enough they will tell you when to take a final booster, 2 days later you go in get sedation and they remove the eggs. Before you leave they tell you how many you have and you need to call tomorrow to see if they have fertilised. That how far i have got to just now!

Alot of people find this process very very stressful and upsetting. To be very honest hun there has been nothing that has ever really been that bad, its not great having to do it i know, but it will be worth it. If you let it stress you out i think you are decreasing your chances.

When i first found out i was devastated that i would have to go through it and when you attend the clinics alot of people are very stressed but i can assure you some of it isnt nice but it really isn't that bad. promise.

I know i still have a long way to go and i am prepared for it not working but i would do it again.

Please feel free to email anytime and good luck. i hope this was a help. x
