First if its wireless check if your mouse is charged, if its not wireless check your connection, if that does not work you USB port may be broken.

Desktop or Laptop/Notebook? USB or PS/2 mouse & keyboards?

If they are USB, then you can remove them and replug them into different ports while the computer is plugged into a power source running or not...

You can have these plugs go bad on your motherboard occasionally. I have installed an after market USB, PCI card to get the keyboard & mouse working in older systems with marginal power supplies. (any computer shops)

If they are PS/2 you can not risk having any power to the computer sometimes, but removing them while the system is running it is possible to destroy (fry/break) the connections on the back of of the laptop/desktop... The PS/2 connectors are the round ones, USB connectors are the rectangle ones...

Try to use keyboard and mouse with USB connector ( not the PS/2 ones )

maybe you need to install drivers for your keyboard and mouse

go to manufacture and find the right driver for yours

    then install it

if i wont work, then try to install other mouse and see if it works

if yes, then your old mouse is broken
