Is it normal for some of the ink in a tattoo to not stay, or just kind of fade away?
I have a chinese symbol tattooed on my wrist, and its all black. but there are a few spots that look like they have faded away. It's probably been about 2 months since I've got it, and I just started noticing it. My other two tattoos didnt do this, so what do I do?
I didnt pick at it or anything, maybe the ink just didnt take. There is only one spot that it looks like it didnt take. I guess I just need to get it touched up.

the wrist is a funny spot when it comes to tattoos, its a joint and has alot of movement so some spots in the tattoo can fade faster thqan others, its completely normal, just go have it touched up. and certain inks sre better than others, but if its done right they all will usually stay the same.

I would generally recommend that you speak to your shop/artist about some kind of handout explaining this. If you have this question, then so will others. That aside... This is normal. One week after a tattoo is about the worst time, with the upper layer of skin peeling much like after a bad sunburn. It will slowly get better over the next week or so, slowing in it's improvement but continuing to 'cook' for up to three months. What you should do now is keep it moisturized, but not to excess. Make the tattooed skin feel like the surrounding; no more as you can get a rash from too much lotion. If it itches, do not scratch the tattoo. You can slap it, and for most people that's quite sufficient.

It is normal for a tattoo to fade a bit. Maybe the ink did not take to your skin in certain spots. Such you said you had other tats before I do not think you picked at it while it was healing. Because sometimes you can scratch the ink out. I have three shamrocks on my ankle and one of them has faded. The other two look fine. It just happens. A touch up will fix it. I had to get a touch of on my tats that are on my wrist because the artist went too deep in my skin so I had to get my letters filled in so it did not look stupid.

It probably just needs to be touched up. It's not uncommon for wrist tattoos to end up needing that, the skin gets moved around a lot and some of the ink does get pulled out.
Just go back to the artist and ask about a touch up, it's pretty routine and you can usually get free touch ups in the three months after getting a tattoo. Not all shops do that, so don't expect it.

sound like the guy who did your tattoo didnnnot do a proper job. and after two months the colors should be still in your tattoo. would look fresh looking. you can go back to a touch up but, will cost you money to re do the color. good luck
Source(s): by experience of have 8 tattoo's and one was done to deep and have asked many tattoo artisit for a fill for the color. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Yes the colour does fade but you can just do back and get the colour filled in again.

It happens, try going to a different but reputable parlor and having it touched up.

I think that the ink is not real maybe, because real ink doesn't come off your skin unless it's fake or not enough is on it.Also two months does't seem very long for it to ust fade away like that. My best suggestion is that you just take it off,or get it re done.
