Well I'll be a BCS or a BS'er? College Footballs get this and place your opinion.?

Although it wasnt clear on the total format of the MWC proposal for a

playoff system using the BCS bowls, the 8 team format was agreed by the BCS officials (HUH!!!)..., its all up to the Universities Presidents

if this proposal takes off or not. Well they usually full of it? This artical mentioned that the pressure for the playoff format is coming from the

non-bcs conference teams, plus they want a 12 man committee selecting the teams makeing the 8 team playoff field, based upon performance and getting rid of the polls and computer comparisons. Interesting. Utah senator has proposed to form a committee about the

US antitrust and fair competition board, even President Obama has endorsed a playoff format, but hasnt done anything yet, probably wont.

What I find curious, is they shot down the SEC 4 plus 1 format, but is considering the 8 team playoff format. I wonder by not allowing Utah in the National Championship Game has them softening up to MWC proposals. Well looks like according to this, if the presidents of each

university agrees to it, a playoff format is born people, problem is BCS school presidents will vote no, while non-bcs school presidents will vote yes. The non-bcs schools out number the bcs schools. What a mess. Your thoughts. Looks like the 8 man playoff format is well getting closer and closer to reality.

Update:

Just read an article about this espn news.

I just find it odd after the only unbeaten team in the country Utah which is from MWC, gets a playoff format concidered, when the SEC 4 plus 1 format was basically laughed at? Fishy, something very, very fishy here.

Update 2:

Done futher research on the deal, The BCS has nothing to do wth playoff takeing place or not. The BCS isnt an enity of the NCAA govern body. A vote was once taken 98-13 in favor for a playoff format, when the outcome of the of this vote reached the Universities Presidents they simply showed no interest in proceeding. That took place in 1988. The BCS has stated they would

adhere to the NCAA govern body on any

policy they simply wish they would impose, since the BCS isnt really an entity of the NCAA. The BCS simply provides a vehicles for the nation number 1 and number 2 teams played.

A committe is being formed to see if the

NCAA govern committee is violating any

anti-trust laws since technically the BCS cant be held liable. Its not really the BCS

the MWC is and other smaller college presidents its the larger University presidents from the Big Six. The mid-majors wont seperate but will take the others to court. BCS is proposing the MWC idea to Univeristy presidents to vote.

It won't happen in your lifetime!

It will get shot down faster than the pathetic SEC offenses that dominated the bottom 10 of the stats.

    - Utah senator's proposal is grandstanding. His party's the minority and he has no power to form a Senate committee

    - It doesn't matter what Obama believes personally. He has no authority as president to do anything.

    - The BCS isn't even considering the MWC's proposal.

    - Non-BCS presidents don't have a BCS vote.

    - Nothing's changed. No closer to a playoff.

    - Utah didn't get it's proposal considered. It was listened to.

    - The 1988 vote was 98-13 DEFEATING the playoff. Going to the college presidents doesn't make sense since the college presidents are the only NCAA voters.

    - The BCS's main function is securing TV revenues for members. This resulted from the 1984 suit against the NCAA. This is the only reason the BCS eventually came into existence.

    - As for the rest, I can't understand you.

I think an 8 team playoff will only happen when Ohio admits its mistake to South Dakota. So many teams in the west are strong, but in the midwest, there are some good teams too. So if Nebraska were to face USC in a playoff, how many tickets would really be sold?

I think it all depends on how much these teams want this to happen. I don't think that Utah will ever play in a playoff game. I wish Ohio was closer to Washington.

    Thank you.

This will get shot down by conference membership almost as certainly as the defense played by the Big 12 during the 2008 season stunk to high heaven.

It's basically lip service. We let you speak. We listened. We took your proposal to our constituency. They voted it down. Big surprise.

There is one thing that truly amazes me about the MWC. There isn't a single member institution of that conference that didn't sign on to the current BCS process. They contractually obligated themselves to participate. Nothing stops the MWC from dropping out of the BCS and forming a coalition of other mid size conferences to develop their own playoff system. They just won't do it because they don't have the financial stability to make it happen. It all boils down to sour grapes.

That's my opinion anyway. I may choose to research this issure further over the next few days and might change my mind but I doubt it.

Not going to happen before the next round of TV deals are up at the earliest. And that's plenty of time for the BCS conferences to shut it down.

I feel your pain, I'd like a playoff format as well, but you have to question whether something like that will ever happen in our lifetime, especially as the big conferences are only too keen to maintain the status quo.

ESPN recently signed with the BCS for 2011-2014. So nothing will happen before that.
