How does a cardiac defibillator affect quality of life, ability to work, etc......?

My brother who is not yet 40 just had quadruple bypass surgery, and the Dr's then decided it would be best for him to also have an ICD or cadiac defibrillator. I am wondering about his quality of life with the ICD and on his chances of returning to work. He has always done fast food, or hard labor. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, do you feel better since or not?

The ICD isn't going to affect his quality of life in a negative way, it should actually improve it. It doesn't do anything to him, unless his heart beat becomes irregular, or stops. The "pacemaker" will keep his heart beating at a normal rhythm if it becomes irregular, and if need be the device can shook his heart back to a normal rhythm, or restart it if he does go into cardiac arrest. It can save his life.

My grandfather had one put in 2 yrs ago, he's 83 and it has helped him a lot. He doesn't get light headed or dizzy like he use too because the pacemaker is keeping his heart at a normal rhythm.
