"no audio output " message on my hp laptop won't go away? How can I fix this?

I've had my hp pavilion dv9500 for a few years with vista and it just suddenly said "no audio output device installed" I've gone to the hp site and downloaded the device but it still has that message. it won't even take headphones. I've also gone to the playback audio device menu but there are still none detected. I've tried everything! Does anyone out there know what else I could do!?!?!?

    try updating the device drivers.

if worse comes to worse, you could possibly have a bad sound card.

sounds like your audio bus is either broken or the system drivers are corrupted. Show hidden devices in the device manager and look for problems, also trying removed the aduio drivers before installing them again, lastly you can try loading a PE or Live Lunix distro....see if you get sound...if it doesn't work its a bad sound card. the 9000 series had all sorts of mobo problems, so i wouldn't be surprised, the new HPs are great...but i don't trust them after the crappy mobos/nvidia cards on the 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000 series from about 2-3 years ago. Go with Dell they have really turned there QA around...especially on their retail models

Easy you have HP which has probably the best online support of any PC manufacturer. Go onto the HP/Compaq site for your country and you will need the product code of the computer stamped on the bottom. You need the sound driver. There may also be other driver updates a swell.

Sounds like a physical problem inside the computer, As the sound card is integrated into the Motherboard, it would be costly to replace. I'd just buy something like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/USB-Music-Cable-Microphone-...
