2000 is too outdated- I don't recommend that
The standard is 2003/2007. If you have a choice or are going to purchase one, go for 2007. It has a lot of features that are not available in previous versions. It also saves in a space-saving format (although still compatible with previous versions.)

I have to agree with Hemppy on some aspects.
It is just like making improvements to a software written and incomplete in all respects viz., XP. They called the improved software as SP2 and SP3. There ended XP's final and error free product. You can go for Service Pack 3 if you are interested as a final encounter.
But if you have money and time to spare, then you can explore VISTA for some time and get back to XP always.
My experience tells, XP S3 is ultimate.
Other softwares are being written to empty your pocket for extra space, extra memory, Mother Boards, HDDs, Pen Drives which are unnecessary. When you can run anything and everything on XP platform, what is the use of upgradation and wasting your money on unwanted things.
Just attempting upgradation always is not advisable too.
XP SP2 is an Operating System. You can upgrade this upto SP3.
MS Office XP Professional with Front Page is enough to work with and the best from all the angles.
I worked on Office 2007 and found it not so user friendly.

Office 2007 is definitely the best as it has features that none of the previous versions have. Especially the Powerpoint is way ahead of the old versions.
However, the interface has undergone a complete change and will time to adjust to. The file formats are also not backward compatible, that is, unless you save your file in XP/2003 format, they will not open in an older version of office.
All that said, if you are ready to spend a few extra minutes getting used to the new interface, and prepared to save your files in the old format whenever taking your files to a different machine, 2007 is really worth the trouble.

Hi Gauti, according to me Office 2007 is the best of the four. I would recommend you this as it has many features that the other versions don't have. The ribbons are really great. Even excel has more rows and columns. You will have some initial problems with getting used to the interface but once you get used to it i am sure you would like it very much.

2007 is best IMO. It's got a little bit of a learning curve if you've used an older version of it before, the interface changed A LOT. But it sounds like you haven't, so it should be pretty easy to get used to, it's a tabbed layout, pretty intuitive. I liked it once I got used to it.
If you'd like a free solution for your office suite, try out OpenOffice. It's compatible with Microsoft Office and can even create MO file types.

ovbiously latest version is best because it replace all shortcomings of old versions. so use office 2007 . it added some more advance features. office 2003 is also good. not use office xp because it has no speech recognition facility , office2003&2007 has it.

hi gaunti, using windows xp is a good steady windows that gives you good service for windows but let's discuss the service packs ya know there is one two and three and perfessional what is the difference? i put a lot of time in study what each one has to offer so when windows xp first came out microsoft got complaints so what they did indtead of calling windows xp back they came out with the service packs so then they came out with sp2 which they received more complaints because some people was having trouble getting their e-mail in sp2 so microsoft came out with sp3 which is a better than sp2 and then the business man complained because microsoft didn't have a sp for them so they came out with a sp for the business man and that is perfessional what i had. it is more business minded now which one is the best i don't think that even microsoft knows that answer now like they say you can't please everyone. so try them all and pick the sp that is best for you the user and that would be advise that microsoft would give you. good luck hope i was helpful to you
Source(s): the way to remove sp hit start>settings>control panel hit the add/remove icon scrol down to service pack 2 and unistall it then reboot go online and in the search bar go to the next sp of your choice and install if you don't like that repeat then go to perfesssional pick the one you like. but always keep internet explorer 7 and mazilla firefox then download java by sun followed by adobe reader which is the bnest support on the market for your media adobe flash then adobe air automaticly installs media player why this one if something has gone wrong in your media it will show it here faster than your windows crashing plus it has a neat icon for your desktop and you can watch some pretty cool stuff on it check it out everything from movies to reruns and news - 1 decade ago
Office 2007 rocks. There are way more capabilities and it has a very aesthetic look to it.
Just make sure your system will handle it. There are a lot of things to check and verify when adding new software or hardware. Always check compatibility and verify what software will and won't fit through your manufacturer's website or ask and expert.
