How did you get credit?

So, I just turned 18 and I want to start earning credit but every credit card I apply for is denied because I don't have enough credit references, but I can't get references because no one will give me credit =[

Update:

I have applied for a couple cards, most recently a Student card from Bank of America.

Go to bankrate.com to read about a secured credit card:

    http://www.bankrate.com/finance/credit-cards/secur...

Go to www.bankrate.com, choose the Credit Cards tab. Under "Compare Credit Card Rates, click on Select by credit card type <search>. On the right, choose the credit card type - Secured Credit Card -<update> and compare the cards to see which is best for you. There is a Calculators button on the blue line above the tabs. From there you can play around with balances and how much interest you would pay if you charge a lot but only pay the minimum.

Also, please go to www.myfico.com, click on Credit Education. Read all you can, because what you don't know CAN hurt you.

You are also entitled by law to a free credit report once a year from EACH of the three major credit bureaus. I recommend you check each bureau once a year, a different one every four months. The only site to get a totally free credit report is www.annualcreditreport.com.

there are a couple of ways you could start building credit, you could get a small personal loan which you might need a cosigner or the best way will be getting a credit cards, you could get a credit card and use it for your every day expenses but make sure you pay in full at the end of the month that way it will show pay in full everytime the credit card company reports to the credit beuros. At the begining you will only be approved for the lower end credit cards but once you build credit in about 6-9 months you should be able to apply for a better card with better benefits such as free miles or cash back. Check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under bad or no credit section and you will find a few choices. But if you are a student apply of a student credit card these cards have no annual fees and low rates.

Be careful because the credit card companies will see that you have applied 20 times and this hurts your credit also. There are also some secured credit cards where you make a deposit and then have credit up to that amount. The best thing is to get a checking account, savings account that you actually increase the balance in. Then you can take a look at getting a small loan from the bank. visit with your bankers and see what they suggest.

Go online and type in how to build good credit. Do some research.

Try applying for store credit cards. Like Macy's or Belk Stores, they usually have really low limits but they would provide you with a card. They interest rates are very high but as long as you have an open account on your credit report it doesn't matter how often you use it.
