Have you heard about the conviction in the murder of Angie Zapata?
I just got an email about the end of the trial. They're putting that piece of scum who took her life away forever now.

I'm glad at the conviction, but also sad that someone so young had their life cut short so violently.
Where you expecting this trial to go like this? What are your thoughts?

Absolutely. I was sure he wasn't going to get away with it. Beating someone with a fire extinguisher, and then beating them a second time when you realize that they're not dead is definitely a premeditated act.
He knew ahead of time that Angie was a transsexual - sorry if you can't spend three days having sex with someone and not realize they have a penis.
For all the transpeople murdered every year, Angie is a beacon of hope for justice.

I'm pleased he was convicted, but I do think this excerpt particularly nefarious:
“Justin Zapata lived like a female, looked like a female, sounded like a female,” said one defense lawyer, Annette Kundelius. “That’s what Mr. Andrade believed. And when he found it wasn’t Angie, it was actually Justin, he lost control.”
It's ACTUALLY Angie, and damn, I think she'd know...

I'm very pleased with how this was handled. The media called her the right pronouns etc (a first in my experience) I thought wow, they know Something about transsexuality. And how the jury gave a fair verdict. I'm very pleased. Justice an respect was served for a transsexual woman, for once.

I'm surprised and very pleased by the verdict and sentence. I'm very happy for the transgender/transsexual community that things went this way. There's nothing quite like a clear signal that "You can't just kill TS people because 'gay things must die' because if you do, the law will destroy your life."

Life without parole is too kind. I'm sure he'll get some hatred thrown his way in prison.

i gotta say, if somebody did that to any of my friends, trans or not, they wouldn't make it to trial. they would die. and nobody would find a body. ever.
