Regulars, here's a thought...?

Just go with me on this one. What if YA! set up a feature that allowed you to filter questions within each forum? Say you were allowed to filter OUT two types of questions so that you would never have to see them again...what would you choose?

FREE music is the first one

Anything to do with "Grades" or "Which is harder"

Anything to do with "Notes in ABC form", "Piano Tabs" (I'm okay with classical guitar tablature), "how can I learn to play for free without really trying", where can I buy a $30 Stradivarius, is the 120 year-old blue painted piano in the garage that hasn't been tuned in forty years worth $30,000, is (name your Chinese brand pastel colored flute on sale for $99.00) a good deal? Can I put #14 piano strings on my classical guitar? Name this tune: G F F A B Etc. etc. etc.

I'd also love to develop an algorithm that would filter every question that has a composers' name misspelled: "Bateoffen", "Bakh", "Chikopfhskee", "List", "Moatzart".

Followed by anything that tries to foist modern music upon you as if it were equivalent to classical.

... and questions that don't ask a significant portion of the question in the question box.

[Edit: Ah, Béla of the one "L" variety. Who knows, perhaps he did write a "cântec de leagan"]

My revel in: I have a a million a million/two 12 months-historical puppy. obtained her at eight weeks historical. as a dog i close to obtained her each and every unmarried vaccine. . .the combinations, rabies, lyme, bordatella, and so on. however after asking identical questions approximately vaccines and listening to approximately over-vaccination i've simplest gotten my puppy her grownup rabies shot considering that it is required. i have never performed an grownup booster vaccine or whatever considering that all of the vaccines she had as a dog are obviously nonetheless potent! i plan on doing an grownup booster subsequent 12 months and in most cases not ever once more after that. regularly homeopathic medication sounds just a little kooky, however a few matters particularly paintings! like @safe haven dogs rule, i take advantage of major oils to manage fleas and ticks and my puppy has no longer had fleas/ticks in any respect! i have been making use of the oils as good as brewer's yeast pills considering april with best outcome. and that i reside and hike plenty in principal kentucky, which transforms into a damp, malicious program-infested jungle in the summertime LOL. take a appear on the hyperlinks different answerers furnished and do what you believe is exceptional.

An interesting proposal. Though one I'm reasonably sure will never become a reality.

Were it to however, I don't think I for one would like to see it as restrictive a format as "Schumisz." recommends; we who love this music genre, should keep in mind at least as I see it, to do everything we can to nurture its continued existence and if possible, further the younger generations exposure to it.

And this is one of the very few forums available to us to accomplish this. I realize that us "regulars", more knowledgeable fans, become exasperated, and annoyed regarding the seemingly endless postings such as "Schumisz." describes; but we should always I feel try to remember that some users posting at first glance what seem to be inane or ignorant questions, in many instances are the result of ignorance or inexperience one might say.

So I would counsel to proceed with forbearance, tolerance: we are all the fruition of an evolutionary, learning journey.

Seperating Entertainment from Music would be a tremendous start. / a fundamental semantic difference in how people use the arts and categorize themselves.

To us, Buxtehude, or Berio, or Berlioz, can be 'entertaining,' But the way the word is generally understood would probably screen a lot of the more annoying questions out of 'classical.' It is also annoying and frustrating to like to help but be constantly and mistakenly asked about something beyond your ken.

I think it a shame and nearly criminal to throw water on youthful fires, at least without selectful thinking about which coals get doused. In the big picture, some of the stupidity and silliness are a couple of minutes on the lifetime clock, and you never know what genuine curiosity you are damping.

A constant presence of it on a daily basis can fill 'our' precious hours with way too many irritating buzzing and chirping insects.

Their are those 'Twilighter' askers who have been happy to learn of The Penguin Cafe Orchestra, George Winston, Debussy's piano prelude Des pas sur la niege, etc.

I was happy to refer them to music that was - imo - a bump [or many more bumps] up.

    Regards, Petr B.

    1. Anything that implies that the questioner is not only capable of playing Liszt's "La Campanella," but finds it so lacking in technical challenges that he/she is desperately seeking something more difficult.

I thought I was a reasonably accomplished pianist until I realized that every third person on the internet ( including but not limited to 5th graders, morticians who picked up the piano as something to kill time between embalmings, and one-armed war veterans ) plays the Grand Paganini Etudes as warmup exercises.

    2. Questions that make me sad...like the Bella's Lullaby standard. I can't help thinking about how shallow and unfulfilling their usual music must be, if the first time they hear something that they associate with beauty and emotional depth they come running in here, assuming it must be classical music.

I want to snap at them, but I find myself wishing I could explain to them that no, it's just an attractive and competant movie soundtrack...and if they'd listen to us, they could have that feeling...every single time.

    *SIGH* we can only dream...

I agree with Schumiszt - the dumb questions that only need a quick search through Google really seem like a total waste of the questioner's energy.

Anyway - the two types of questions that drive me the most crazy are:

    1) "Can I please have the notes for (Bella's Lullaby, Pachelbel's Canon, etc) - but JUST the notes, no sheet music...thx."

    2) "Who is better? Mozart or Beethoven?" I mean, come on!!! Maybe if it was rephrased as "Who do you PREFER - Mozart or Beethoven?" it wouldn't be quite so annoying...

The best thing is to keep scouring this forum for those gold nuggets - just trust that eventually you WILL find the occasional shining treasure amongst the dross...

    1) Off topic questions... ("Notes for Bella's Lullaby!!!!!1 10 points!!!!!!!11?" or "What is the best screamo band?")

    2) Idiotic questions that require one word in google and pressing an enter key. (When was Bach born? or Where was Liszt born?)

yep... Unfortunately, it will never happen...

    --Schumiszt

Oh! Edit... I think I found a better one than 2...

    3) FREE sheet music requests... Especially when the capitalize 'free' so its like 'FREE' and especially when it isn't classical music...

  • 1 decade ago

What the heck is Bella's Lullaby? Did Bartok write a Lullaby?

  • 1 decade ago

    1. Requests for free music. Ocassionally this is an acceptable request, but for the most part people asking for free music are asking for copyrighted, non-classical music.

    2. Anything unrelated to classical music. (Bella's Lullaby etc.)

(And I second Schumiszt on the "dumb questions")
