In psych we were talking about dissociative identity disorder. Who has the most documented personalities?

Supposedly there can be as many personalities as 100. The most I found is 92, but the links are lousy. If you can find a good link please include it.

There have been many reports of polyfragmented DID, which is typically created due to ritual abuse. A polyfragmented system will have over 100 parts, however not all might be fully formed alters capable of living life as we know it today. I highly doubt most therapists keep track and file reports of their clients with the most alters. In many ways, that could be seen as a betrayl on the client.

According to the ISSD treatment guidelines for DID, it is not reccommended to publish client info, write books on specific clients (with or without the client) or in any way use client as primary research. Though accurate data might be helpful for psychology majors, it has been detremental to those individuals seeking treatment for this disorder. Remember, DID is based on secrecy. Unless the individual is very far along in their recovery, the best chance for success is to keep it between the therapist and client. There needs to be a level of trust.

I would have to question why it is so important to know. I have polyfragmented DID. I'm never quite sure why it people want to know 'how many'. Some say it synonomoyus with 'how crazy' when I know individuals with 3 or 4 alters who have much less coping skills and their world is much more chaotic. According to my therapist, it is more 'how do you function and cope' that is her question. Personally, I don't even try to do a head count...that is just far too confusing and would appear as an internal betrayl.

That's weird. A true split personality is a sign of deep psychological problems. My older sister had about 5 of them. She died of alcohol abuse about 4 years ago. My older son seems to have two personalities too. Some people say this is perfectly normal, but it depends on what a psychiatrist might say. My sister had a personality disorder diagnosed by psychiatrists.
