Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop screen goes dark & then recovers....Thoughts on troubleshooting?
Ok - I'm a total PC/Laptop newbie. The screen goes dark 10 times a night and then recovers. A message comes up saying: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
I don't think I am doing anything that stresses the PC. Just surfing the web or viewing Facebook. I have a couple of the Dummies series books (Vista for... & Laptops for....) but nothing seems to apply.
The Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1720, runs Vista, has Norton,
has Intel processor Core (T) 2 Duo CPu T7250 @ 2. GHz
3.00 GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GC.....
See - I'm babbling because I don't know what to look for -- Any Thoughts? Thanks Yahoo guys & gals

Update the driver, or reinstall the one in it by
Go to settings/control panel/system/device manager
and delete the device and shut down. Reboot
and you should get the message "new device found" see
if windows can install it from the windows files.
If it is not there you will have to download the driver and install it manually.
