Piano Music Suggestions?
I have been playing piano for 26 years; however, I have taken the last couple years off. I'm getting back into playing and trying to figure out some good pieces to work on to get my fingers back into shape. The level doesn't really matter, just keep in mind that this is getting me back into the groove, so no crazy pieces that will make my fingers fall off!
Any suggestions are appreciated, and I would LOVE it if you attached Youtube links for any pieces that you can!
To give you some ideas of styles that I like: Alkan, Beethoven, Debussy, John Adams, Ravel, Rachmaninov, Greig...lots more, but my tastes are mostly Romantic in nature
Thanks guys!
I had totally forgotten about Amy Beach and Prokofiev! I'm listening to a bunch of both of their stuff now. P's first piano concerto does tend to be my favorite of his, as far as piano goes. Exciting! Pieces to pick now!

Brahms wrote quite a bit for piano, that could be fun.
... or for a real kick, pick up some Amy Beach works. Piano Trio Op. 150 or the Piano Quintet in F#m Op. 67.

As you requested in an answer to a question of mine, this is my single suggestion which may not be to your liking.
You didn't list him amongst the composers whose style you like, but anyway, how about Prokofiev's "1st Piano Concerto"? Here's the beginning of the first movement:

I don't care for much of his music, though do love the two ballets(especially "Cinderella"), and this particular concerto.

edit: You know, having not heard it in some time, and then after watching all three videos of it, have concluded that I probably should have recommened a different composoition: this piece, if one is "not up to speed", could very well easily cause one's "fingers to fall off": Sorry

Hey you answered my question on Alkan!
Nice to see him on your list now ^^ Don't give up on him!I would recommend Alkan's Esquisses. They're rather simple and frankly not extremely difficult but nevertheless,a rather obscure piece of work. There are a lot of them but I suggest you start with the first one.It provides a lyrical melody and simple leaps from the bass on the left hand. Its also rather slow(technically VERY slow)so its a good way to warm up to Alkan and get your fingers from that lazy slump.
Pick out a couple Rachmaninoff Preludes too.Easy works that should accompany you after you get some exercise into your fingers.Ravel wrote a couple of minuets too, take some of them and love them because Ravel is like a painter in his sounds.
Sorry I won't attach any Youtube links for you.Want to know why? This is so that you won't go running around to play that pieces on THOSE links!Explore those pieces and have fun!
Source(s): I'm currently learning Alkan's Allegro Barbaro and I'm 15 years old.4 out of 6 pages done already! Guess what this proves?ALKAN IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE! - 8 Track MindLv 51 decade ago
well, here's something I try to get my guitar players to get

doesn't have to be this exact product, but this or something similar really does wonders.
