Does anyone think 47 million in guaranteed money is a good idea for a rookie?

Stafford could go out tonight and step on a banana peel and rip his ACL to shreds. He will still get paid 47 million, even though he would never even play in an NFL game.

I just don't understand the draft.

If I were in charge of a team's draft, I would trade down heavily so I would not be forced into a high guaranteed contract. I would build a team from the second round on and avoid the first round all together. Free agents and 2 plus round draft picks...I could build a team. Without having to bet the farm on a 21 yr old kid.

Just my thoughts.

Thats why the Patriots are so smart why pay alot of money for a first rounder who hasnt proved anything, instead just trade the picks for multiple picks later in the draft and draft a bunch of cheap players who could be just as good. They seriously need to have a rookie cap, because every year the price for the first pick goes up by 5-8 million dollars

    100% agree.

I'm worried about this trend. It doesn't make sense that teams are scared to trade up for the top picks because there is too much of a financial burden. These teams at the top are screwed financially if they get a bust. I don't have a problem with big contracts, it's just that unproven players are getting more than veterans. Doesn't make sense, hopefully they can fix this before it gets out of hand.
