Which US city for a Melbourne-lover?
I'm thinking about traveling to the US, and I was looking for suggestions on which city to visit. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and love the variety, cosmopolitan lifestyle and arts and music scene, so was wondering which city would be best to visit?

San Francisco is by far the most beautiful city in the US. It's also the most cultured and educated city. (Not to mention the only major city where you won't get robbed or murdered.) There are so many other places to visit within a short days drive as well-- Napa and Sonoma valley wine country (less than an hour), Yosemite National Park, the ancient redwood forests, the Pacific Coast Highway drive, and so much more.
Flying from Australia, it would be very easy to fly to LA then drive up the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway to San Fran. You won't regret it.
Source(s): Many visits to the SF bay area. I don't live there -- unlike the rest here trying to get you to come to there home cities ... where you'll have nothing to do but get drunk and listen to idiots asking you about the outback. Be Warned: New Orleans is the most violent city (murders per capita) in the US, both before and after the deluge. - 1 decade ago
Boston, MA is a sister city to Melbourne.

I'd choose Washington D.C. I used to live there. It's so full of American History. Lots of monuments and museums to see. A magnificant zoo. You can get everywhere by subway. Lots of fabulous entertainment & restaurants. Tours of Capitol building & Whitehouse usually available.
