Do people realise that Israeli politicians such as Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan and Shimon Peres were terrorists?
In the eyes of the British colonial rulers? And that they only became "heroes" after the fact?
"Terrorist" is a label that powerful governments find useful in applying to their adversaries, as it allows them to treat the soldiers fighting for the opposite side with less respect and humanity than they are required by International law to show to "Soldiers"
It also allows them to treat fighters on the other side as spies if they cannot afford "uniforms". Thus they may be executed and held without access to the protections of the Geneva Convention that all Western nations signed.
Many Revolutionary armies of history were have been seen as terrorists by those they fought against.
Including the American Revolutionaries George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Paul Revere!!
"Terrorist" is a subjective concept.
Do you agree???
Moshe Dayan fought the British for YEARS before there was an Israeli army to be general in.
He began his life as a warrior at the age of 15. He was involved in the bombing of a major Jerusalem Hotel where British officers and their wives socialised and many of them died in that attack.
He was the Foreign Minister of Israel and the Chief of Staff for the Israeli Army for over a decade.
That, my friend makes him inclusively "terrorist", soldier and politician...by most accepted US standards of today!!

I learn something new everyday. I thought the Bush administration didn't talk to terrorist?
I guess it's Muslims they did't talk to.

you are entirely correct.
Did you know that the anti-terrorism bill passed right after 9-11 spent hundred and hundreds of pages telling exactly what the government can do to terrorists and do to stop terrorist... but not once even defines what a terrorist is? That's PATRIOT ACT for ya.
I've also seen lots of Republicans try to label liberal (peaceful) protesters as terrorist. One specific example was a republican wanted to have protesters in San Fransisco arrested as terrorists because their protest was so large it forced police to close off a few streets. Number of injuries at said protest: 0. Deaths? 0 of course.
The label "terrorist" is slapped on the opposition by those in power. I'm sure we're going to see some democrat power hungry nut jobs slap some republicans as terrorist now that they have control too. Neither side is innocent
::UPDATE::
By order of the Government: all people who give me thumbs down are terrorists. They intend to cause terror on me with hostile intentions ;-)

I agree with you for the most part. The problem is a terrorist for one group of people is always of another group of people. When the laws are on the side of the oppressors they can make every thing illegal. I personally prefer passive resistance. That does not work though if the media is suppressed as well. This leaves more drastic actions. We like to give very basic reasons why people lash out. I do no think it is always about hatred. The Americans and Europeans have raped Africa of natural resources for centuries and the people were left poor and hungry now that the foreign countries are being forced out they call the people terrorist and blame the social conditions on corrupt governments. The truth is the social conditions have always been bad. We just never reported it when we were making money.

The word "terrorism" is politically and emotionally charged, and this greatly compounds the difficulty of providing a precise definition.
In many countries, acts of terrorism are legally distinguished from criminal acts done for other purposes. Ultimately, the distinction is a political judgment.
Helen Thomas has her own definition of "so called" terrorists. Under U.S. Law, terrorism is defined as premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents.
Because this is such a common word now, there are groups who will twist the definition to meet their own ideologue.

Ones sides terrorists are another sides freedom fighters.
That said, the terrorists of today intentionally target civilians including women and children. The Islamic terrorists don't want to kill you personally...they don't care about you as an individual. They want to kill in high numbers. The meaning of the word has evolved.

One man's terrorist is another man's hero. Victors get to write history so they can make any person, no matter how vile, into a national treasure.
Look at muslims--they are terrorists to the rest of the world and heros to other muslims.

Yes ... 'one man's terrorist is one man's freedom fighter' ... Che was/is a hero to the left and a terrorist to the right ... Mandela was supposedly a 'terrorist' for 23 years of his life now he's the most admired leader in the world ... it's hard for me to condone but even suicide bombers are considered heroes for supporters of their cause.

I think you are perverse in your perspective and that you are looking for self affirmation by seeking out those who agree with your objective.
George Washington funded the army and at best could have been considered a "warlord." He was backed by a subversive government that wished to overthrow the established government.
Mosha Dayan was a General in the Israeli Army, he was neither a politician nor a terrorist. He too was backed by his government -- which as facts would have it, was supported y the international community that helped to establish that government. I don't always agree with the tactics employed by the Israeli government, but I agree even less with those employed by those who wish to destroy Israel.
The PLO and the Black Hand were/are terrorist organizations.
The defining difference is that terrorists target civilians and then, refusing to wear a uniform themselves, hide behind civilians.

Subjective morality is a ruse used by people to justify actions that they know are wrong.
These "freedom fighters" as you call them practice sharia law wherever they gain power, the Taliban routinely executes women for no good reason and ignores the murder of young girls in the name of "honor killings". I cannot understand why you would defend them.
