Should I be taking a gift to an engagement party?

A gift is not something you "should" do. For an engagement party, it's a gathering to congratulate the new couple, not an event to receive gifts. It is up to you if you choose to bring a gift. It is not required.

it's not required, but a lot of people do. When I had mine, we did not expect gifts, but we definitely received them form most people.

If you want to bring one, it does not have to be a large gift. It can be something small off their registry (we have bought other couples a pizza stone set for their e-party), or you can just bring a couple bottles of wine or another small token.

Personally, I do not like attending any party without at least a small gift for the hosts or couple. Even for a dinner party a bottle of wine or small token is typically brought, so why not for an e-party? It's not required like at a shower, though.

    Have fun.

you are not obligated to bring a gift, thats not what an engagement party is for. If you dont' want to go empty handed, you can bring a bottle of wine.

Engagement parties are not gift giving occasions. If you want to bring something that is fine, if not that is fine too. I usually bring a bottle of wine.

    It is not required.

But, it would be a wonderful gesture to bring a bottle of wine and/or Congratulations card. It just lets them know that you are truly happy for them without extending yourself too far.

    not really..

If you really wanted to i think wine, champagne or flowers and a card would be nice.
