porsche 911 carrera race?

ok well im having an argument with a friend he says his 2004 infiniti g35 with a 350z drive train can beat my 1984 Porsche carrera turbo, we would race but, the Porsche has been sitting around, and doesn't run, so which would win? and how much is the porsche worth? it has about 27,000 miles on it, and it sat in a garage for a long time thx for the help

I think that line makes it pretty definitive that the Nissan would win!

But ok, on to the question... Comparing these two as performance cars: In many ways, the Porsche would enjoy an advantage. Both cars have similar amount of power, though the Porsche is much lighter than the heavy Infiniti. Though the Infiniti does enjoy a more modern suspension, it is probably not enough to make up for the difference in power to weight (and while the Infiniti has adequate braking, the 930 brakes are legendary).

However, if this is in the US, then it all becomes more questionable as there was no turbo produced for the US Market in 1984, and while the RoW versions are generally desirable for performance reasons, how they were federalized as grey market cars could have major implications for the engines for the turbo.

The other major implication would be the driver of each car - the Porsche Turbo is a very difficult car to drive at or near the limit and would require a skilled driver to get anything close to it's potential, while the Nissan car is quite compliant and forgiving, making it easier for an average driver to get more of the car's potential.

As for value, the earlier 930s ('89 and '79) tend to be the most desirable cars, although the later Turbo Carreras are 99% the same and usually do not trail far behind in value. Among these cars, the '89 sometimes is seen as the most desirable since it was the only one that came equipped with the 5 speed transmission. A mint condition, desirable example could command $30-40k. Less desirable cars will drop off quickly with the currently economic climate.

Without know what is wrong with the car, you are probably looking at a rough range of values from ~$6k to as much as $30k. The low end would represent a car in generally questionable condition who's engine likely requires a full rebuild; in this case the car would essentially represent a roller chassis nicely outfitted with key parts like the 930 brakes and factory 930 flares. The other end of the spectrum would represent a car that is in basically mint condition and could be easily restored to running condition... it may be worth a little more if it's a desirable color as well (the low mileage could be attractive to a collector, though again, less so if this is a grey market car in the US).

Top speed on these models was just over 160mph.

The 1998-2001 Nissan Skyline GT-R has the exact same performance specifications as the Nissan 350z. Same 0-60mph time and top speed.

The Nissan 350z is lighter and quicker and handles better than the Infiniti G35 Coupe, which does have the same engine and chassis and transmission.

In the video link below, you will see a 1980's, 1990's, and 1999 Porsche 911 beat the Nissan Skyline GTR in a race.

Which means it should beat the Infiniti G35.

The Video is in Japanese, but there are englich subtitles at the bottom and it is easy to see who wins.
