Salted butter...why is there such a thing? Makes no sense to me.?

Salting actually preserves the butter. Also, I think taste better as a spread than unsalted butter.

the salt is for flavoring and a preservative of sorts.
I never understood why unsalted butter was called for in recipes as well as salt.

Because butter has almost no taste on its own.
Unsalted butter is basically solid oil.
With salt, it brings out the flavor.

It gives butter a little more flavor, if you're using it on vegetables, eggs, etc. But, you should always use sweet butter (unsalted) when you're baking; the salt will cause things to bake faster and can burn

Butter is amazing. Salt is amazing. Put them together and you have a little piece of heaven.
