Is it better to write off old A/R to bad debts or leave them on A/R?

If you have customers that are 120+ days past due and aren't paying, but might, do you leave them on Accts Receivable or write off to bad debt expense (there is no allowance for doubtful accts on their books)

As long as there is still a possibility of payment, they should remain in A/R. They should only get written off to bad debt when it becomes clear that there is no possibility of payment (like notification that the person or company who owes is filing bankruptcy).
