Christians, which commmon generalizations about Christians don't apply to you and your personal faith?

Almost all of them, especially the one about Christians being unintelligent and uneducated (since I have 2 master's degrees).
Also hating gays (I have advocated for gay rights), being a bigot (I have done training in multiculturalism and bias and have a multiracial family), all Christians think the same (Christians are a very diverse group of people), being judgmental (anyone who knows me knows this isn't true), that we all blindly follow our pastors, that all churches only want our money, etc.
When someone makes such generalizations, they are often guilty of the very thing for which they are judging Christians.

ooh this is a great question
answering.....
I am an old earth creationist, which corresponds nicely with science
I am only a fundie in the sense that I believe the Bible is the Word of God, however people may and often do disagree on what the Bible says and means. I feel that we are supposed to get personal revelation from the Holy Spirit as we read the Word and not go by what some church says. I am always reexamining my beliefs but I am certain that Jesus was who the Bible says He is and that the Gospel accounts are true.
I am not an evangelical - I don't believe I am personally sent out into the world to spread the Gospel. It is the biggest part of my life, but I don't need to change anyone's views. Everyone is responsible for their own fate
I don't believe in hell and yes, I think everyone will get a "second chance" after this current life and everyone WILL know who Jesus is. The lake of fire is for Satan, his angels and whomever God deems truly wicked and that will be after Christ's 1,000 year millennial reign.
I could continue on and on but I read this again and realized that I sound kinda mean to Christians and I don't mean to sound that way. I am just tired of the stereotypes.

Atheists who grew up in a Christian environment commonly generalize their experience to all Christians, specifically in these ways:
The common experience of a person who grows up around Christianity and later leaves it includes, first and foremost, an understanding of a gospel of fear. Such a person never understands what it means to have a loving relationship with God, because their entire understanding of God has to do with punishment. This type of person perceives the main goal of Christianity as that of avoiding punishment, and that's a gospel of fear- fear has to do with punishment. When someone gets the "gospel of fear," odds are not so good that they'll stick around. And once this type of person leaves, s/he frequently continues in the belief that the "gospel of fear" is the only one there is.
In addition to a generalized "gospel of fear," many people grow up in a nominally Christian home, experience a mere facade of Christianity in the lives of those closest to them, and certainly never learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Then they generalize this experience to all Christians, making the assumption that (nearly) all Christians are only going through the motions without any depth of belief or meaning. They never experienced a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ, so they discount the existence of such a thing. Many people generalize their own less-than-genuine experience of Christianity to include all Christians, and they don't seem to realize there is a different way of doing the whole "Christian" thing.
Either way, it basically comes down to generalizing a crappy personal experience with Christianity to all Christians. If the same experience were shared by all Christians, it would make sense to try and save them the trouble. But that's not the case. Some Christians actually aren't motivated to follow Christ due to a fear of punishment- some of them actually were reached with the true Gospel. Likewise, not all Christians go through the motions and perform a series of fairly meaningless actions just because Mommy and Daddy said so. If you are in the process of giving this a thumbs down, there is a good chance that this describes your childhood situation- and it seriously bothers you when someone suggests the possibility that it's a mistake to generalize your experience to that of every other Christian home.

Well, the assumption that all Christians are judgmental hypocrites is definitely not true. The assumption that we hate gays and that God hates you is extremely untrue.
God loves everyone and wants us to love everyone around us, so genuine Christians, Christ-followers, love you no matter who you are or what you've done. We love rapists, gays, murderers, liars, cheaters...everyone, because we are brothers and sisters in Christ.
A lot of people quote Gandhi, something like "I like your Christ but not your Christians." Well, even as a Christian, I feel this same way. The Christians that DO feed the stereotype make the genuine Christians, like myself, look bad.
That's all I've got to say about that for now. :)

That I hate science
that I have something against homosexuals
that I am judgmental
that I take the whole bible literally
I'm sure I could think of more, but those are the main ones and I'm still upset about listening to those darn country and western songs LOL

you're appropriate to entice a huge distinction between anti theism & anti theist. there's a distinction, and all of us get perplexed approximately it each and every so often. as much as I loathe and loathe faith, and what it does to our international...i've got faith strongly that each and every physique has a suitable appropriate to have faith in spite of is clever to them. If some attempt replaced into made to prohibit faith outright, i could march alongside theists to evade it. How detrimental to stay in a international the place human beings have been instructed what they could and ought to not think of and have faith. yet I in simple terms desire religious human beings ought to comprehend that they only don't have the right to impact the lives of others consistent with their own own doctrines. in case you do in comparison to gay marriage...nice, do not attend one. in case you do in comparison to abortion...nice, don't have one. show your perspectives alongside with each and every physique else...yet do not anticipate or call for deference or admire because of the fact of your faith. If human beings stored their faith to themselves, i does not even difficulty coming here. It in simple terms does not be adequate of a controversy for me. :)

There is nothing common about Christianity.God is not common. If my faith was personal I would not have any. Jesus is the author and the finisher of my faith.
Source(s): Christianity is orchestrated by God.God is the life source and we are directed and taught by his spirit. There is nothing general nor common about that. God is awesome. Do you know anything about him? So anything that men say about Christianity has no implications nor does anything said apply to us. Ephesians chapter 1. God predestined us. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Christians don't think for themselves.
This is my least favorite: Christians don't read anything but the Bible.
I find that very insulting to my faith, but mostly to the fact that I'm an English major...

If all the Christians who have called other Christians “not really a Christian” were to vanish, there’d be no Christians left.
