Can you prove evolution?

Most people believe evolution is a fact, but how can you prove that a species can change into another species? Has anyone actually seen, or observed this in human history (not micro evolution)? If you can't than I assume that it is just a matter of faith.

God made man and gave him the potential to evolve both physically and psychologically. which type of evolution are you referring to?

First there are the fossil records which you can actually see and follow a creature's evolution throughout the ages...

Then there is micro evolution which is the only one we can observe in real-time.

    Now regarding macro evolution:

    micro evolution+micro evolution+micro evolution+.....+micro evolution=macro evolution....

Macro evolution is the outcome of many micro evolutions... It would be irrational to think that these two are different things and thus exclude micro evolution...

Also if micro evolution is an observed fact, why are you telling us not to use it as an argument? It's still evolution but in a smaller scale... You should know that evolution is not about fish growing wings or cats having eight legs but it's the adaptation of a species to their environment and it takes a VERY long time and ONLY if necessary...

When you ask us to prove something (which is already proved) you can't pick the arguments which we can or can't use unless they're invalid...

    Yes.

There is no such thing as macro or micro evolution, it is all just change. These terms were simply made up by fundies because they have to admit that SPECIES DO CHANGE!!!

Now add up a bunch of minor changes over a few millenia and voila, new species.

As to observing change, have you ever caught a cold...? The fact that you can catch a cold many times throughout your life is because it changes so rapidly. Your body has only just built up a resistance to one form, and then it changes into another... Evolution is the reason you can catch many colds, but you will only ever catch chicken pox once

Take a Great Dane and a Chihuahua. 5000 years ago they were both jackal/wolf like canines. Now look at them, and yet they are still technically the same species. If these two totally different forms can come out of the same creature over only 5000 years, imagine what a few million years could do.

    3 types of apes.

    type A, B, C

type A has best traits for survival

type B has 2nd best traits for survival

type C has the worst traits for survival

50% of type A apes survive and reproduce

35% of type B apes survive and reproduce

15% of type C apes survive and reproduce

within one generation there will be alot more type A apes with the better traits

and as the generations continue, the more type A apes there will be.

this means that evolution most certainly exists and is a FACT.

The only way to dissprove this would be to dissprove genetic inheritance.

    MATH

*the species we will be choosing is the apes

*the type of ape is determined by its best traits for survival (this equation is divided into 3 different traits for suurvival)

    Key: A - type A apes = 50 S / B - type B apes = 25 S / C - type C apes = 15 S / S = survival percantage

assuming there are 3 types of traits in a specific species (in this case, apes) Obviously this number is dramatically decreased

A+B+C = world population of specific species

Generation 1 Generation 2 already within the second generation the apes with

    A*50 = 50A 50A*50 = 2500A type A traits have dramatically outnumbered the others.

    B*25 = 25B 25B*25 = 625B

    C*15 = 15C 15C*15 = 225C Imagine hundreads of generations!

    but wait...

imagine so many generations have passed that now 100% of the world of these apes have the type A traits. Now evolution will naturally determine other traits within the type A traits that are the best for survival.

imagine another type A, B, and C traits within the A traits

this means now the best of the best will surviv eand reproduce the most

thus proving evolution is just a natural event that occurs.

speciation has been observed - it's taking place right now in the UK where a mutant form of the Grey Squirrel is taking over. The Black Squirrel is more aggressive than the Grey and only now seems to breed with other Black Squirrels.

[Definition of a species: a group of organisms that only naturally interbreeds within itself even if breeding outside the group is possible and produces viable offspring]

There is a mountain of evidence that speciation has ocurred in the past. For more information see under "getting an education".

Conclusions and opinions based on evidence are not "a matter of faith". Faith is what people use to help them believe the impossible.

How many more times will this question be asked or paraphrased? How many more times will it need to be answered by the thinking community of yahoo answers? There is more than adequate proof, real world scientific proof. I presume you don't believe in atoms or electrons just because we can only see their effects, not actually seen them? Or do consign atoms, gravity, gamma rays, information in a computer memory to just a matter of faith. When you fly in an aircraft, you can't see the engines working, I presume you just have faith that it's flying? How convenient it is to dismiss all science as just faith. All you are showing is your ignorance of the scientific process and the burden of of proof that a scientific supposition need and the observable, factual universe on which scientific theories are based. Did you sleep through all of your school science education or close your ears to what the teacher was attempting to show you?

Evolution isn't a hypothesis to be proved or disproved.

It is a theory used to tie together a group of observations. It's validity is in whether it fits with the observations and may be used to predict other observations accurately. The theory of evolution seems to do this.

If you read up on the difference between the concepts of theory and hypothesis you will understand it a lot better.

It is not a matter of faith. Although there are things that are yet unproven concerning evolution there is an overwhelming amount of evidence which proves the theory, just look up any scientific paper on the subject (not one done by a creationist, an actual scientific paper). There is alot more evidence for evolution than for any religion.

It's already been proven. We have transitional fossils from various time periods. In order for one species to change into another it takes a considerable amount of time.

Plus, if you accept micro evolution but not macro evolution that means you also think that it is possible for a human to walk 100 feet but not one mile. Macro evolution is made up of micro evolutional steps....obviously.

Speciation is quite commonly seen in plants, insects, and microbes. New species of fruit fly can be bred in as few as eight generations.

EDIT: Erin, ever heard of a dingo?

EDIT: Erin, that is a misconception. Experiments in artificial selection has demonstrated that it is possible for new characteristics to arise that never existed before. In the 40s and 50s, Soviet scientist, Belyaev bred a new variety of foxes by selecting for one single trait - tameness. Unexpectedly, however, the tame breed of foxes displayed several other characteristics that didn't exist in their feral red counterparts.

These tame foxes had grey and silver fur, barked liked dogs, and were relatively odorless. These traits were not intentionally selected, but rather the trait of tameness is genetically linked to fur colour (and whatever else). The resulting phenotypes are completely new.

EDIT: Erin, you're still mistaken, but here's a thumbs up for being amicable.

I do not think it is a matter of faith, it is a scientific theory which as yet , has not been proven. In any case, the non-evolution of the soul is what interests Christians more so than the shape, form etc. of the body.
