"Yes", research reveals that certain genes may predispose people towards superstition. http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20126941.700...

I have thought about this before and I cannot really put my finger on it. Why is it that I have this ability to understand and see where the real faith is and others do not? God obviously wants all to be saved but that is not the way it is going to happen. He throws it open though to prove and show that there is ones who will follow the way he requires.

We have imperfection with all this sin and death and through this we have many faults. Over time it has been proved that this condition is not getting any better. But still it has always been shown that there are ones that have the correct inner condition to look and find God even though these faults exist. So that leaves the question; why am I that particular person?

Oh, this was freedom of choice; I have not always been this person. It is only after years of experience in life that I felt the real need to seek God. Could it be fate? I do not like that word because it could imply that God intended it this way, he only wanted it his way and made it happen that way. No, I think it is more a case of time and unforeseen occurrence. This is just the way it ended up.

Looking at it from God's perspective, we know that he desires none to be destroyed but all to repent and come to him for salvation. Like I said he throws it open and lets all have opportunity.

There is an expression in this world; sometimes you have to cut your loses. I think in this case that this may apply.

a gene FOR anything is often a very simplified and misleading way of looking at things

but yes...genes are involved in religious belief.

one in particular VMAT 2 (or maybe 3/4) vesicle monoamine transporter is currently being looked at

Religious belief may have an evolutionary advantage.

Not specifically, there probably is a general trait in human nature that leads to the creation of a sense of spirituality and the supernatural, not a god gene as such.

Interesting concept. I am not sure I accept all that the article proposes, but it is an interesting concept and would explain why since man could make marks on the wall in a cave he has been exploring some sort of spiritual experience.

Well brain scans show that logic and "spiritual" experience lights up different areas of the brain. So it is very likely there is a biological characteristic that enhances a person's belief or doubt in "God"

Sure, right next to the evolution gene.

There does seem to be a tendency among some people to believe in things that aren't true, if it provides them comfort.

I think this is a scientific question, not a religious question.
