AVG, Norton & McAfee are useless.
AVG is free - hence why it isn't that good, it has basic protection but if you go googling a heap and go into a load of things, then you need better.
Malwarebytes.org / malware bytes anti malware
Is not an anti virus, it just removes spyware and malware.
McAfee & Norton are being tied to computers since they got into a dealership with DELL / HP And other computer brands, just because they come pre installed on a computer doesn't mean McAfee or Norton are any good.
A well known and spread widely program is not better than a less known brand that is spread less widely. An example is, "Oh cool! They're all jumping off a cliff! I've gotta do that too!" = just because everyone does it, DOES NOT mean you have to do it.
Just like Mcafee and norton, just because it's widely spread and everyone uses it doesn't mean you can't be different with better protection.
ESET from Nod32.
Download the "Anti virus & Anti spyware version 4 30day trial"
And get free serial keys from.
Now, Nod32 is of course a paid program, so the serials are on that site if you want it free, how those serials are retrieved and posted daily is beyond me however.
For information from AV & AS 2008 version (ver 3) there is graphs showing results of how Nod32 compares up to others. If ver 4 was to be graphed and reviewed, it'd have even stronger. Anyway, Nod32 hands down - it's a winner.

However, if you want to go free.
Download.com
Search for Avira or Avast.
If you want further information for your computer, I have compiled a ".txt" file written from before.

AVG does a fairly good job and YES the program will find and delete what it can but there are certainly better anti-virus programs out there for free. Avira is considered (and rated) the best of the free ones, followed by Avast then AVG but any of them will work for the average user..

GOOD LUCK !!!

AVG does remove all the viruses you just have to tell it to move the infection to the virus vault..from there you can delete after waiting for 5 or 6 days to make sure the contaimination is not an important file you need to run any of your software or programs with...if it is in the vault you can always restore it..if you have to..

here is some free information for all you AVG free lovers.
AVG Free contains basic antivirus protection (base level only).
AVG Free does not contain Anti-Rootkit protection so rootkits may be hidden in your system.
AVG Free does not contain Anti-Spam which can monitor and block SPAM and fraudulent e-mails.
AVG Free does not contain the new Safe Downloads & Instant Messaging protection (Web Shield technology)
so it does not screen your downloads and communication for viruses and spyware.
AVG Free only includes the Safe Search protection which provides you with advice on search results.
It does not protect against infected pages. Only AVG paid versions contain the Safe Surf technology.
AVG free needs 256mb of RAM Avast uses only 28mb of RAM 55mb when scanning
so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

i suggest you use Avast : http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

if you do download avg 8.5 i hope you have a lot of ram.a bloated pig the new avg is.if you want free then avast or avira are lighter and better.
- HandsomeDanLv 41 decade ago
Yes, it does.
I used it for two years with success.
That said, I recently switched to Avast! Antivirus, which is another free option that has protected me better. AVG let a few things through, including conficker, so I stopped using them.

Check out Panda. They're offering free anti-virus cloud computing. They're the first to do it and all the big players (i.e. names you're more familiar with are coming).
And if you don't know what cloud computing is, don't worry, you will whether you want to or not. It is the future and it's just around the corner.

I have avg and I would recommemd just purchasing the full version. With the free version u only have limited security, and sometimes the automatic update won't automtically update! Frustrating.
