Why does the reading comprehension on here suck so much?

I think a lot of it has to do with education. The American school system should teach people to read, to read carefully, and to read and think critically about issues. It doesn't. This is a great boon for those disseminating propaganda and for proponents of 21st-century No-Nothingism (i.e., the radical right). And since so many extremists come on to Yahoo!Answers, we all get a taste of the fruits of this sad state of affairs.

Probably because they are the same people that can't ask a question that even makes sense. Sometimes the grammar is so fractured the question can't even be answered, but people answer it anyway. Many come to this exercise with an agenda they wish to spout and the question doesn't matter. Many times the premise of the question defies logical answers or is leading such as "When did you stop beating your wife?".

I come in here and do a lot of searching trying to find a question worth answering. When I read the answers already posted, generally half to two thirds of them are lame or just plain stupid.

Once in a while, I find a sensible and intelligent question with many thoughtful answers, but I still spend half my time looking for ones to answer or looking over answers given.

BTW, why don't they pay attention? I don't know, but they must read and hear the news the same way because we ended up with Obama.

If this helps at all: I have like a high schooler's reading level and I'm a slow reader, but I'm doing perfectly fine. My experience of English class at college is more writing papers than anything else (I'm a science major though so I get to escape virtually any real analysis) - I've had to write papers, but I haven't failed 1 class ever because of it since getting to college.

It is not just you this happens to nor to your side, and its no secret that we don't like each other, however a lot of folks here want to make their point and run ,its almost like spam! It is dialogue that made this country great. Sometimes I feel like some of those who ignore my questions and give a blame Bush answer or attack me or my agenda should be in office as they mimic politicians who almost never give a straight answer. The reason we see this is yahoo is open

people are stupid. The vast majority of the human population are babbling morons with closed minds and limited vocabulary. By definition half the population is below average. But even the average ones are pretty stupid. Do you have any idea how dumb average is? Its barely above trained monkey. I try not to hold the stupidity of the drooling masses against them. They were just born that way. And stupidity is not the exclusive purview of any one ideology. There are idiots of all kinds who blindly follow whatever they are told and never think for themselves.

Oh, you forgot about the answer a question with a question also. I have been saying this for weeks, that it seems that people have a problem with reading comprehension. they can read an article and get something totally different than what the article means, as long as it seems to bash Obama, they are fine with it (even thought the article doesn't support their contention)

Most of people who answer questions here are the ones who always sat (or sit) at the back of the class, next to the door.

Because human beings tend to have a tribal mentality, and therefore assume they know what tribe mentality you come from.

maybe because when you ask a question you end up answering it yourself in the details of your question which makes me think you really weren't asking a question, you just wanted a forum for your views.
