How common is common sense?

I'm always amazed at the lack of common sense these days. As if thinking - and figuring things out is passe. That we now require the television or google to tell us what is the correct thing to do.

Did we forget how to teach our children common sense?

Is there no longer something called "common" sense?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Common sense is NOT that common. I completely agree with you. I think a lot of parents are leaving children to their own devices instead of investing the time to teach them common sense and proper manners.

I don't think common sense can be taught. Children obviously pick up their morals from their parents, and learn to do other things. But I think for the most part, you're born with common sense.

For those people that act like complete idiots, I think they ignore their common sense.

Common sense is acquired by trial and error. You make a mistake, suffer the consequences and learn a lesson. Next time you are in a similar circumstance, common sense should tell you not to repeat your mistake.

The problem is too many kids are not being given consequences for their misdeeds so they don't learn what not to do. Parents are spoiling their kids and in the process not giving them necessary life skills, like common sense.

    everyone has common sense.

thats why they call it common.

I think that in our society today and the way we are taught in school, common sense gets lost as we live life.

We are taught that everything is complex and if u can get an answer simply its probley wrong.

We tend to make things harder then they really are these days.

So our common sense gets muddled, even though we have it...we choose not to use it and we look at everything kinda like a complex math problem.

IT doesn't seem all that common to me. Perhaps it's the lack of accountability that our children face - they don't have the opportunity to learn any sense.

My first husband was a college graduate, was very book smart, but when it came to doing anything that he hadn't learned in a book . . well that was a different sorry. ANd you know - his mom did everything for him . . hmmm.
